Gibson "Quality"

Re: Gibson "Quality"

i f he bought it new then the "luthier" broke it. remember he was shaving the neck, maybe he used some kind of tool to speed-up his work and accidentally break the neck. he's now in deep trouble so he fixed it with some filler and tell your friend it was like that when he stripped the paint.

Ok, let me re-assess here. If this person broke the neck, how would I go about proving it? And no, the axe is 2nd hand.

Why would you think it came out of the factory that way? I would be willing to bet large sums of money it was broken by the previous owner.

well there you go. it was bought used , so you don't know if its gibson or the seller. and i doubt it is gibson. it is more likely the first owner had some repair done on the guitar.

We both know the previous owner and the work he's done to the axe.

Re: Gibson "Quality"

Anything is possible, but I am skeptical as well about something that agregious leaving the factory...but again, anything is possible.

Re: Gibson "Quality"

I'm running to my room right now to sand down the neck on my Custom, just to see if this story is BS!!!! LOL

First of all.....regardless of the break.....your friend is a jackass for even sanding down the neck in the first place! Give him one solid smack across the face for that one, would ya?

Haha, I gotta defend him here - here's a Zakk Wylde fan, and I wasn't too sure myself until he sanded down the back of his old Epiphone LP - and jesus what a difference! PLus I love the natural feeling of my Wolfy :)

Re: Gibson "Quality"

To be honest, I wouldn't doubt it from gibson.

And to be honest, they couldn't suck me into buying one of their guitars for $400+ if it was diamond studded from top to bottom. You pay for a name, and about $300 for the actual guitar. (Some may disagree with me, but I don't care.)

i agree with you, but your numbers are wrong......its probably closer to at least $800......not $300...... that said, i think they should be around $800 or 900....not $1200+

Did he buy it new? I'm pretty critical of manufacturers and all...but that looks fishy.

I tend to agree....????

Ummmm...yeah, I'm with ya GJ!

Re: Gibson "Quality"

the situation is quite questionable though i have heard of them not soldering the jacks on a whole shipment of guitars from a reputable member of SD forum, another member said that the neck slipped out of the neck joint with their sg and my friend has a lp studio that the exact thing happened to his

ive also seen shady stuff happen by other manufacturers that they tried to cover up like bad drill holes covered up or built over

Re: Gibson "Quality"

Whether it happened at the factory or not, I still have yet to hear stories this numerous about quality problems by ANY OTHER major guitar manufacturer.

Maybe $800 for a supreme figured top, with a maple front and back, and seymour duncan pickups.

I looked at a few in a guitar store, it looks like its made identical to my BC Rich, nothing looks as "godly" as people make it out to be. A S-1 Elite looks far superior to any gibson they had.

Didn't get to play one, But even if it did play well, its still not impressing me for the cost. I'd rather have an axis or something.

Similar looks don't always mean similar quality, or construction methods.

That's beside the point, Gibson will charge what the public pays. Until that changes, they'll be more than happy to let a few people gripe about their pricing structure.

Thats pretty much my point, I think its silly to be sucker punched by a company like that so I avoid them like STDs.

Same with fender, or any other famous guitar brand.

I haven't have issues with fenders, although I'd definately take a G&L over a Fender any day. I also, will buy a knockoff over a gibson. Until they improve the QC, I'll play a crappier instrument. If enough people do that, things might change. Until then, get used to seeing what you're seeing.
