Gibson Semi Hollow Bliss. Beware...GAS

I'm still in tonal heaven over my newest guitar, a 2007 Gibson ES-335 made in the Memphis Custom Shop. It kills...plain and simple.

Also, since I do some tech work, I just did a pro setup on a minty 82 ES-347 that is just beautiful. It's amazing to look at the matching set, and I'd love to say they're both mine. He won't sell it, and I can't afford it. It's worth about $3500.

Plus his ES347 from 82, and virtually unplayed.

Ugh.... good God that's BEAUTIFUL. You always end up with the sweetest guitars :fing2:

Re: Gibson Semi Hollow Bliss. Beware...GAS

Both great guitars, but quite a noticable difference in the spacing between the bridge and tailpiece...

Re: Gibson Semi Hollow Bliss. Beware...GAS

I wonder if the 347 had a Bigsby originally and the stop tailpiece was a later addition.

Doubt it... A friend had a black 347 years ago & the stop tail was in the same place. I forget what the lower switch is for, he gutted the electronics & put Seths in. Came with Dirty Fingers if I recall...

Hey, what's the extra switch on the lower bout? Gorgeous guitar's by the way.

That switch is actually a 2 way, even though it looks like a typical 3 way.
It splits the coils on both pickups, so you can get a bunch of single coils sounds as well. A nice feature.

The 335 is the only Gibson that makes me drool, and that's a fine example. What did you have to sacrifice to get that one?

The guy I bought it from special ordered it from Gibson and paid about $3000.
We agreed on the price of $1850, so he took a huge hit on it.

$1850 is a lot of money for me, but I HAD to do it, when I saw his local listing.
I'd always wanted one, and his was exactly what I wanted.

I have to sacrifice my G&L Legacy Deluxe, maybe a BLUE mic, and some of my savings. To me, it's definitely worth it, because the ES-335 plays and sounds beautiful. Even unplugged, it projects almost like a shallow bodied acoustic.

Re: Gibson Semi Hollow Bliss. Beware...GAS

Howdy,

They're both gorgeous! Do remember to set aside some time for things like work, sleep and paying attention to the wife! ;)
