Gibson SG Classic w/ P-90's

I've been checking these out for awhile and I'm dangerously close to "buy-it-now-frenzy": Gibson SG Classic

GuitarCenter/musiciansfriend has current stock, even though gibson no longer officially lists them as available. Any fans of the classic out there? They sound pretty sweet to me.

I've had my eye on those for some time as well. It drives me crazy how there's a pic of one in black even though it's not available to buy. Nothing looks cooler than a black SG.

HUGE fan of the SG Classic.

I have a '94 LP Standard, G&L ASAT Classic S, Strat, Tele—still the SG Classic is my #1. It feels beautiful in my hands and gives me the tone I'm after: raw, muscular and articulate. I can't believe it's only $1,000. No chance of me replacing the stock pickups (at least not the one in the bridge; the one in the neck could be a little brighter for my taste).

They are probably one of the coolest guitar in that price range. I would by one tomorow if it was not sight unseen.

I'm with Keith.

I bought my SG Classic because Keith had one and he loved it, and it looked awesome.

I love mine. It is also awesome. I putted a Bigsby on it!

I modded the pickups in mine with some magnet swaps to tweak the mids a little bit, but it's really up there with the best-playing and sounding guitars I've ever had (and I've had LOTS of good ones).

For $999 shipped from MF, it is absolutely 100% worth it. I found a beat old brown Gibson SG hard case to lug it in because no Gibson should ever see the inside of a gigbag, but it was a minor expense when considering the excellent value of the guitar.

Yup, I still need to get a hard shell for my SG. I don't gig with it, so it's not a top priority at the moment, but it will be soon.

Actually, it's really the old 'SG Special' that was used by so many big name players in the late '60 & early '70's. What a great guitar. I don't understand why you don't see these everywhere.

Sosomething, your pictures of that guitar have convinced me that when (not if) I own an SG, it will be outfitted with a Bigsby. Stunning.

The batwing pickguards are very annoying.

my favorite thing about you, besides not being sure how to pronounce your screen name so i just imagine it a a noise an emu would make, is that you can always find one tiny detail about something that totally ruins it for you.

i totally agree that the classic would look better with the angel wing guard but i don't think it's a deal-breaker for me. i almost bought a Classic before i found my SG-X for the amazing deal it was...and came close to buying a black Classic (THEY DO EXIST AND THE BLACK IS THIN AND TRANSLUCENT SO YOU CAN SEE THE WOOD GRAIN IT IS SOFA KING SEXY) a few weeks ago.

the best electric guitars are made of mahogany with set-in necks and one or two Gibson P90 pickups and tune-o-matic bridges. Everything else is just 'almost.'

It doesn't. I just happened to run through many pickup changes on a SG std with batwing pickguard and it was too fresh a memory.

(for those who don't know, for pickup changes you have to remove the TOM and the height-adjustment screws)

Re: Gibson SG Classic w/ P-90's

^^ That is true

BUT ONLY A FOOL CHANGES THE STOCK PICKUPS IN AN SG CLASSIC! ! ! ! !
