Gibson SG: Could it replace a Les Paul, Tele, and P90 axe?

Re: Gibson SG: Could it replace a Les Paul, Tele, and P90 axe?

I think that you would be best off selling the LPC, and the PRS, and then save up some dough for a nice used SG and a used LP studio. If you sold the PRS and the LPC, you could get about $800 for both, then save about $300-500, and you could pick up a used SG and a LP studio. One thing I know for sure: you will never get LP type sounds from nearly anything else.

So far pretty much all "YEP" - good to hear. I am looking forward to off-loading some guitars and having a more focused collection

I've heard folks say that a tele with humbuckers is close to an SG. Maybe it's true but I've never done a head to head on that. If it has P90s then it certainly covers sound that but P90s aren't humbuckers so it can't really do that tone.

SGs don't cover LP territory because they aren't as round or throaty. At least that's my opinion. But it's not like you can't play one instead of the other. Of course you can but depending on your ears you might hear something missing from the tone.

You could get an SG for all your needs and I'm sure it will do fine. But I could say the same for the LP and the right tele.

Really it's up to you. But in general I would suggest unloading the three guitars and getting one that is better. Just don't end up like me and gettting 11 that are better.

I really like the white Paul, and I've always wanted one. I had a white Elitist LPC briefly, but I sent it back for a major finish crack at the neck joint, and I never bothered to replace it. What are you gonna ask for it?

Does it have chrome hardware, or am I seeing the photo wrong?

I love it too - it's so awesome looking:

It has gold hardware. I'll try to get $400 for it.

Thanks. Does it have a HSC? And is it Korean or Chinese?

I got a 60's tribute SG with p-90's a few months back for I think $425. That guitar has become to be played as much as my trusty explorer. I grab whichever one is close and play. Both sound great but different. I don't have a tele, but I jam to countryish stuff and the P-90's hold up pretty good to me.

The real suprise is how fat and powerful the guitar can sound. It's bone stock and I can rip death metal if need on it lol.

I do not have a hard case for it - when I bought it, I was downtown and had parked at least 1.5 miles away, and had to walk through downtown with a Les Paul just in my hands --- it was awkward . If you want to buy it, we can talk about a case - PM me.

I have no idea where it was made - I don't even know what year it was made. I pretty much only know that it's white and that it sounds good

I would never choose the SG as my only electric guitar.

To my mind, an ES-335 or Stratocaster would be much more versatile. #3 would be a Tele with a Strat neck pickup.

Those are my three favorite electric guitars. But not an SG.

And if I could only have one it'd be the 335.

I have a Strat and a 335 and another Tele already. All of those have sentimental value and can't be sold.

Sounds like a good move. But I can't get over the looks of the SG for the life of me...!

I like the way they look - especially in certain colors.

I thikn they're ugly in black, but glorious in white or cream. I love a walnut brown, and a worn red is iconic, if not a little boring.

I really like seeing them in weird colors, though.

I would love to do Pelham Blue with creme plastics
