Gibson: Unveils the New Gibson Pickup Shop

SD still has the original Gibson Leesona winder from Michigan. As far as pickup swaps go, most guitarists are aware of the legacy and lore of the original PAFs. I don't know if Gibson can build a better PAF-type than other companies out there.

Gibson is as Gibson does.

They have some good pickups, and some bad ones - just like everyone. And even the bad ones, meh, it's a matter of taste.

That said I have a taste for Duncan and DiMarzio and with maybe one or two exceptions, can get more of what I want cheaper from other places.

70's pickup...T-Tops I guess. Would never pay $129 for those.

Just checked them out. Not too bad of prices IMHO they seem to be in the price range of SD's, DiMarzio's and whatnot. I was expecting outrageous dumb prices like some booteek brand like Bare Knuckle's or something.

Never been a fan of Gibson pickups aside from the 57 Classic+, and in no way would I shell out more than $250 for a set of pickups, but that combo of the 70’s Tribute in the bridge and the T-Type in the neck had something really cool going on, except they don’t come in 4-conductor.

I recently bought a’70s Flying V with the Tribute pickups and thought of swapping the neck for that very same combo! Of course, I could also get something like a SD Jazz…

It really depends on the sound you are after...

I think Gibson pickups are as good as any. I don't think the prices of the modern series are too bad, even. 100 for a 498T? Would totally pay that. In fact, I might.

$100 is a fair price for a tried and true proven workhorse like the 498T.

So, I was reading the 70's pickup. A tribute to the "hotter" pickups Gibson was putting out in the mid 70's for the new hot players?

WTF pickup was this??? I call straight up bullshirt.

I also love how they list each pickup in open, chrome, gold and nickel for each position to make it look like they have a ton of pickups.

This company is so full of crap.

Eh. The "Modern" stuff and some of the other less dolled-up stuff looks reasonable. The 498T is a flavor I'd try in more guitars if it came in short leg... great in bright guitars but it won't fit in the one I want it for. Oddly don't dig them in Gibsons and Epis though.

Gotta say I'm also interested in the 70s tribute bridge pickup... maybe they dropped an A5 into a Dirty Fingers?

The DCR between the two is similar, so maybe. The Dirty Fingers does have two polepiece coils, where the ‘70s Tribute has the traditional slug and polepiece coils. FWIW, I love the bridge ‘70s Tribute in my Flying V! :fing2:

I'd pay for a 70s tribute bridge and a slashbucker neck... Sadly, they're not offering the latter.

The Dirty Fingers came out in 78, which is close to mid 70s I guess
