Gibson v Dean trial to start

Tokai has been making exact copy of LP, Strat and Tele for years and Gibson and Fender have done nothing about it.

Those are made for the Japanese domestic market; I suppose there's a chance that Fender and Gibson haven't registered trademarks there. They can't be commercially imported into the US as that would violate the US trademarks, but you could absolutely go to Japan, buy one there, and bring it back with you.

Also - US Patent / Trademark law is very enduring/long lasting compared to the rest of the world. Some countries don't even have it. Our culture is fairly extreme unique in this respect.

But also, anything faked can easily be exposed as a fake.

Maybe Gibson shouldn't have created a lucrative market for Dean to sell lower priced copies by inflating their own profit margins?

Gibson is a joke , they're sueing because they have over priced themselves and pissed off that others are making better guitars.

I own a 1971 Gibson Flying V and a 1974 Gibson LPC ..... but since there ass holes, sueing people..... I'd rather buy an Epiphone instead , at least they stay in tune better than Gibson.

I hope Gibson gets laughed out of the court room again !!!!

You do know who owns Epiphone, right?

Depends how good the fakery is.

My Crayola Mona Lisas are one thing, but the world is awash with fake Rolexes, fake Gucci purses, you name it. They're good enough to fool most people most of the time, certainly at a distance, which is all the buyers really want.

The idea that Epiphone "stays in tune better than a Gibson" statement really neuters any point he was trying to make-

internet bombast and hyperbole at that point.

If he said my 71 Gibson with Klusons doesn't stay in tune as well as my 2020 Epiphone with Grovers or Gotohs -I would get that... but apples to apples its a non sensical statement.

When I toured the Memphis factory, at the time, I was amazed at how few human hands touched the guitars. Every process from wiring to paint was done very very fast, with a lot of robots doing the in-between.

Idk, if you want a nice Gibson style guitar that's not an actual Gibson, get a Navigator. Yes, they're meant only for the Japanese market (hence their use of original headstock) but there's ways of getting them over the big blue sea, just like with Tokais, Burnys etc. There's plenty of options these days if you don't care about the name on the headstock.
