Gigged last week with silver zephyr pickup guitars, my feelings about them

Nothing about that definition suggests a requirement to get paid.

Job...a piece of work; especially : a small miscellaneous piece of work undertaken on order at a stated rate

The stated rate can be "zero".

Here's a definition you can look up: pedant

I've been known to make the Chancellor Gowron Face from time to time.....but it's the EYES that freak my wife out!

My fiancée made the mistake of telling me she thinks Gowron is creepy, so now I just make this face whenever I want her to leave me alone.

Look, Orpheo, you asked opinions on what everyone else would do in your situation. It's blatantly obvious from the responses that NO ONE would have handed over their guitar to another dude they barely know. The fact that in your subsequent responses that you have chosen to ignore that topic and divert attention by arguing the philosophical question of "what is a gig?" and your one response of "I did it to prove my point" shows that you knew what the risks were and you decided to do it anyway. Given your bragging about how impressed this d-bag who bled all over your guitar was, I'd wager to say that it's likely you wanted your guitar in the hands of another player to show off your setup skills and wow them with your amazing pickups.

And as for the gig question, your OP describes this as a "jam session" that was organized by this chick (your words).

Re: Gigged last week with silver zephyr pickup guitars, my feelings about them

When you say a gig it means there is a date set and a specific artist is suppose to play to an audience doesnt matter the size. Random dudes with no gear showing up is a jam session not a gig spin it anyway you want but its still basically an open mic night.

My God, you argue about everything.

Re: Gigged last week with silver zephyr pickup guitars, my feelings about them

About the parts. Sure, they're build from parts, but what guitar isn't? So few guitars are constructed from a single piece, and yes these parts were bought 'separately', but still.. they're one guitar now, and perhaps the finest instruments I have. Or some of the finest (and again… I have 40 of them).

Fair enough.

Pics of the bloody pups?

Lending gear is risky... I'm borrowing a bunch of pedals from friends right now and am treating them very gently and kindly. And a musician's decision to not lend out a piece of gear (even for just a one song performance) is their right and has absolutely nothing to do with their level of generosity. I don't lend out gear to people very often because I am not loaded with money and can't easily replace much. lolz!

Blood stains metal? Wha? We need pics...

Re: Gigged last week with silver zephyr pickup guitars, my feelings about them

We should really take it to the "what EXACTLY is a gig?" thread.

Pics or you're inventing this story.

If someone bled all over my guitar LITERALLY THE FIRST THING I'D DO is post a pic of it here. Seriously.

+1

After thinking about this thread today, I thought to myself "...my sound is so distorted, it would be hard to hear any slight difference in pickups".

on topic: I've never had the nerve to ask someone If i could borrow their guitar to play live.

I think very few players would even ask because it is pretty bold to ask a stranger to play their guitar.

I'd be happy that I could tell people my pickups contain blood and silver. That's rock'n'roll. :headbang:

Re: Gigged last week with silver zephyr pickup guitars, my feelings about them

Maybe the guy is a werewolf or something and is invulnerable to damage from normal pickups. He got careless, not knowing that Orpheo has silver pickups that can hurt him.

I don't care about silver, I want a set of the new Blood Zephyrs.
