So I was at my buddies house downtown for a jam, and his dad collects a lot of guitars. I bought these 3 gibson acoustics at an auction, and was keeping them downstairs in their cases in the closet. He sais he got them for 250 a piece at an auction and go for about 400-500 dollars on ebay. I looked them up and he's about right, but it seems to me like these guitars should be worth more.
One has sort of an concert shape (I think that's what you'd call it, not real knowledgeable on acoustics). It's made of solid cedar, the neck is perfectly straight and the frets are in decent condition. The action is fairly high. The strings on it were very old and nasty but the tone was great, I bet some new strings would really livin it up. You can tell it is very old (pre-60s) because the finish is shrinking and cracking (nitro-cel). It sais nothing on the inside and nothing on the headstock except "gibson" and on the back of the headstock is an embedded serial no.
The other 2 are in the same condition about, they're both dreadnaught style with a spruce top. The finish isn't cracking much on them.
To me it seems like these guitars should be worth a ton of money.
What do you think? I'm tempted to low ball him for one or two, maybe sell one and play the other. I like the sound of the ceder one...
