What do you think about this?

It's an experiment to see what the market reaction is.

Thoughts?

Re: Glow In The Dark Humbuckers?

Oh great, glow-in-the-dark 'buckers but no 11k winds. Gee thanks!

(Just kidding...)

Re: Glow In The Dark Humbuckers?

ooooooo I really like that idea, beat out dimarzio by making them glow different colors. You know Vai and Satch will want em.

Re: Glow In The Dark Humbuckers?

Glow in the dark bobbins? It's a tacky novelty item. Doesn't interest me at all.

I have to agree with you on that one...Maybe if I was in a hair metal band and it was 1983...but I'd rather see Duncan look into a 10-11K PAF (I know, I know, we've already beat this one to death...too much expense in marketing, research, packaging, etc etc.) Can't blame me for tryin'!

Re: Glow In The Dark Humbuckers?

Pretty cool, Evan. How about a different color for each bobbin? I think the market is there. A small one, but there nonetheless.

Re: Glow In The Dark Humbuckers?

"Hey! My guitar sounds better since the pickups glow in the dark!" :sigh:

I agree, although I don't know if I agree that it is a tacky novelty item. I can't imagine the demand will be all that high for these. I also understand Evan's point regarding the overwound PAF (although I'd love to see it!)

How about we not hijack this thread and stay on the original topic. Thank you for your support. :)

Re: Glow In The Dark Humbuckers?

I can see a market for them. Maybe BC Rich would use them as OEM on their higher end gear.

Re: Glow In The Dark Humbuckers?

Its definately an original idea. Would it work and sell? I'm not sure there. I think it would be cool to have glow in the dark pickups in a guitar and play with it slightly dark or with a bunch of black lights on. How often are you really going to do that though? Maybe it should be a custom shop option instead of a mass marketed thing.

Re: Glow In The Dark Humbuckers?

These would be great for 80s shred guitars / superstrats, and I can see these helping Duncan take a bit of market share from Dimarzio in that respect. Therefore I think 'glow in the dark' coils are best suited to pickups typically chosen by 80s metal / shred guitarists (http://www.shredaholic.com/topshredpickups.html includes those), so if you're planning on mass producing them I think that would be the safest bet. Having said that, these may be best suited to the custom shop - I'm not knowledgable enough to guess how popular they would be.

Personally I'd want a pair of Duncans with these on, and would put them in the next guitar I'm building if possible (strat body / kramer neck / floyd rose).

Whatever you do though, make sure you get some sort of trademark on them first before Dimarzio steal your idea and trademark it themselves. Although I don't approve of not only trademarking colours but dragging companies through court to bankrupt them, I definately think these are not only legal but ethical grounds for a trademark for Duncan.

I think we've all been on topic.

Re: Glow In The Dark Humbuckers?

of all the time u'd own these, how much of it would be spent playing in total darkness after sitting under a light for 30 seconds to charge them?

.00000000000000000000000000000000001%

or less?
