Are you kidding me? NO. You tell us its too much effort to market research a functional item like a 10-12k wind but glow in the dark is plausable? Umm, OK.

One needs a few weeks minimum to develop to make it sound good, the other one means the bobbin pourer simply grabs a different Vat of plastic.... boils down to: One is a few thousand dollars in labor and parts, and one can be tried and produced for an upcharce of cents....

Want a 10-11k SD "hot PAF"so bad?? The S-Deco has been around for YEARS ... if people would BUY it (as opposed to harping about it not existing), then maybe it would be considered as a production pickup....just like the Custom 5 or last year´s suggestion of the ´78....

But people obviously aren´t buying them in quantities that would make it a viable option as a production pickup, even though it already exists

The point of business is to make money.... not to spend thousands developing a cheaper alternative of a product you already make, just to satisfy an obviously small portion of the buying public

I´d like to see green, red and Blue Floyds.... but telling FR that every other day isn´t gonna make it happen ...Ordering one MIGHT

I think some of you guys need to stop your incessant harping (every second thread I see someone of about 10 members is pissing about a 10-12k, regardless of how on topic it is) and get a general clue of what the purpose of opening a business is... and maybe realize that the product you´re constantly harping for already exists... all you have to do is buy it


Now, can we finally get this asinine pissing contest about what products you´d all rather see out of this thread and get back to the topic of "GID bobbins: Cool /lame /So-SO? Why? Why not?"

Note that there is no question of "What else should we consider producing" in that statement

Evan, I've been thinking about the idea a little bit... While I think a bobbin that entirely glows in the dark, might be a little bit too much, an inlay work out of this glowing material on a similar color bobbin would make a great custom shop option. Imagine an inlay which doesn't look different than the rest of the bobbin at normal light, but in dark some kind of pattern becomes visible as the inlays start to glow. I think that would be a nice hand-made feature with more of a 'refined' feel, and would suit the image of Seymour Duncan, which I have in my head, better in my opinion.

BTW, the idea above could be applied to pickguards, too. I can imagine the custom shop offering complete prewired kits with these glowing inlays.

I don't give a damn if they ever make them. I have an DSeco as is clearly stated in my sig and I have gone and continue to go elsewhere for what I need. Evan is talking about MARKET research not R&D which should be quite similar in either case. No one is clamoring for glow in the dark anything yet this gets gets proposed but things people are asking about get summarily dismissed? The logic escapes me. Evan has made it clear where they stand on the matter. So be it. If my opinion and perspective is no longer welcome here they can show me the door but until then I will say whats on my mind and not give a damn if you like it or not.

They are a little gimmicky, but there's probably a small market for them - especially with the younger crowd and 80's glam metal guys.

I think it's kinda cool. As long as it's not some huge upcharge. If you get some big name player to use them they would probably sell quite well. I think Vai would probably love them.

Oh, and just to put my unsolicited $0.02 in, enough with the 10k hot PAF guys. It's getting really old.

OK I think they have some cool factor, not that *I* would ever buy one but then I'm 43, like Cuban cigars, red wine made by vintners & not factories, and single-malt Scotch...OTOH, there is a vast market of teen+ fems & dudes that would think that was kewl ya no and WTF, if you can take their money with it why not?

As for all the other posts on here that would say 'I'd never buy it' I expect they're into the finer things...

My honest opinion Evan- if you are going to actually do mkt research & listen to folks on a board - which I was assured you did not do as it isn't scientifc & all - go to JEMSite. Those cats would go nuts over this, after all, if you own a Jem you dig green guitars and pointy headstocks & wild stuff like that. AND - you could steal some market share from a major Dimarzio - lovin subgroup...

If you want to get your teeth kicked in, go to the Les Paul forum with this idea! LOL, I'd like to see that...they're some real dyed-in-the-wool "if it aint a real PAF it sucks" crowd...you think you get hijacked here -- they'd run you outta town on a rail there...but who cares. Might be fun.

I think some folks on here are concerned about the 'image' of SD but I think a line of products aimed at the younger player makes sense. Dimebucker et al. Good luck!
