Gluing fingerboard advice.

Ok guys i am about to glue down a fretboard on my 36 fretr projects and i was wondering if anyone has some tips or advice before i go ahead with it? I am using the small nail/pin trick to get the board to stay straight when clamped.

Is there anything else i should consider??

Re: Gluing fingerboard advice.

thats all i do. i put three pins in to make sure it wont shift at all

Ok cool, i have done extensive research but i thought i would ask anyway. I am a bit nervous because i know it will be a huge job to remove it if a stuff it up. got all my clamps ready and glues, I was going to use some epoxy on the top of the u channel martin rod and titebond along the sides.

Re: Gluing fingerboard advice.

Did you fret it already? I glue the fretboard on as a blank and then do the rest of the work. Only seems logical.

Otherwise you should be fine.

Man no of course i haven't fretted it yet. :D installing 36 frets its going to be a task.

Re: Gluing fingerboard advice.

**** looks like i only have titebond 2 on hand. I think it would be fine but i did read a few forums that say its not as good. hmmmmmmm damn delays

Re: Gluing fingerboard advice.

Good luck. I'm guessing this is going on your pointy star shape monster?

I'm interested to see how your fingers will be able to fret the notes from the 24th fret onward.

Yeah im not to worried. Next one i do i think i will go whole notes after the 27th fret like ujr.

Hows this one by doberman guitars

Re: Gluing fingerboard advice.

So the p/up still reads the string from under the fretboard?

Yeah man why else would it be there? the fb is thinner in that area and the neck pup is a high output bridge pup

No one does it better than ULR's sky guitar. he had special pickups made just to go under the fb.

Re: Gluing fingerboard advice.

Didn't read through the rest of the entire page so I'm not sure if this is still relevant.

For gluing fretboards I'd use Titebond I, some other would want hide glue. For fretboards and gluing tops on guitars I suggest a water soluble glue so if need be, you can reassemble the joint in the chance that you f up (but you still shouldn't, just an "in-case") with water where the glue is. It is a lot of work and you'd have to sand (refinish for some guitars) but better than starting all over in most cases.

Yeah i have tb2 here but i will wait till next week and to get some tb original. I doubt it will really matter that much but i have heard of tb2 having some creep over time.
