Good all around speaker for custom 1x12 cab?

Hello everyone,

I found a guy that makes customer cabs here in Mexico and he can put either Weber speaker or Warehouse speaker. he is being very well into providing explanations and options that I really wanna buy the speaker from him. For the Eminence or Celestion I already found distributor.

So what I want is a spekaer that can be a good all around speaker: good cleans, good overdrive/distortion from the amp (I am getting an AMT SS-20), take the overdrive/distortion from pedals like my Fultone Plimsoul or any other good overdrive/distortion pedal. I have a guitar with humbuckers and another with single coils. M
y power amp can put around 70 watts per each 8 ohm speaker. The ide would also be that it should sound as good as possible with any other kind of amp head, like an Orange or even a Marshall if I ever wanna get rid of the AMT and go for a traditional amp head. My power amp is an ISP Stealth.

These are my findings so far

Celestion: Seventy/80, G12T-75, Classic Lead 80 something else?
Eminence: Commonwealth, Legend EM12, The Tonker. something else?
Webex: Ceramic 12 Minessota, Ceramic 12 Chicago. something else?
Warehouse: Anything?

So do you think these options from these brands can be called "all araound" or "versatile" speakers?

Eventually I would end up with a pair 1x12 (i don't want 2x12 or 4x12 since I want lighweight and portable rig). I am also studiying the possibility of mixing cabs, or maybe having 1 american and 1 british voiced but that would be a different thread so I would like to focus this one on 1 speaker to rule them all kind of thing.

Thanks in advance for your help!

I would only consider a G12-65 variant. In a single 12" you can really use the extra warmth and bass, especially at low volumes.

I you want power you can put a EV 12M in, but then the lightweight is right out the window.

From WGS there is the Liberator 80 and ET90, 80w and 90w respectively. Both are based on their copy of the Celestine G12-65 (the ET65) the 80 had a bump in the mids and the 90 supposedly has more of everything

EV not abailable for now but I know a couple of those I mentioned are kind of clones to it. According to Weber's site the Michigan 12 is like their take on the EV, but it only goes 100 watt (which is enoug for me) and is 5 kg (the original EV is 10 Kg ). Has anyone here tried the Weber Michigan 12?

dont forget the g12K100 from celestion. Its big low end is excellent in open backed or closed 1x12 cabs.
Its like a g12t75 would sound like if it was not so scoopy in the mids. A very strong speaker.

Ain't that only 50 watts? Are you using it for veratility or is it focused on cleans? What kind of overdrive or distortion you use?
70 watts per each 8ohm speaker, correct me if I'm wrong but that would only be 35 watts into a 16 ohm speaker. The Cannibis Rex is rated at 103 db so it's quite efficient in power transfer. It's got a nice low end, good mids and a rolled off top end where it doesn't get too ice picky.

Emi Swamp Thang is a great all-around spkr. But one that I like even better (has an even more even EQ) is the Warehouse Guitar Speakers G12C 12" 75W. I have it in a small 1x12 cab and it sounds amazing (very easy on the wallet as well).

C. Rex is a wonderful speaker, but it's only got 50 watts power handling in the 8 ohm or 16 ohm varieties.

Speaker wattage is the advertised rating regardless of the impedance rating. If you ever want to know the max wattage of the cab, it is the wattage of the speaker with the lowest watt rating multiplied by the number of speakers in the cab. Say you have two V30s and two Greenbacks in a 4x12. The rating is not 170 watts, but only 100 watts. Because the lowest rated speaker (the Greenback) is 25W, and 25W x 4 = 100W. Series or parallel wiring will not affect wattage in this case either.

For a 1x12, I would either go for a Vintage 30, or one of the two versions of the Creamback.
