Hello,
I was thinking about trying some new speakers 4 my Randall cab. It has 4 jaguar 50watt, not sure what Ohm speakers. The connection with the stereo cable from the head 2 the cab is 1 end 1/4 plugged from head into only 1 1/4 plugged into the cab.
Trying 2 stay in the $125 a piece range, and I have know idea what ohm speaker 2 get, so any info would b super. (I play metal mainly) I was told Eminence makes some good speakers?
Thanks all

If you are replacing ALL the speakers in the cab, then the sky is the limit for what impedance you can get. Get either four 16 ohms or four 8 ohms. What kinda of amp? Is this the only cab you use? Does your amp have an impedance selector for 4/8/16 ohms? What kind of metal tone are you going for?

Re: Good replacement speaker 4 my cab

Its a Randall RX120RH head, and cab. It doesnt have a impedance selector. Their are 2 1/4 inputs on the head I just use the input wear Randall guys told me 2 in the input with a min impedance of 8 ohms. the other input on the head is 4 a min impedance of 4 ohms, and internal speaker will b disconnected? their is only 1 1/4 jack input on the cab. and yes I plan 2 replace all 4. Metal tones Im looking 4 high gain, alittle chunky clean, alot of range. thinking Of 2 swamp thangs, and 2 texas heats maybe?
Thanks

Do you mean you have a budget of $125 per speaker, or $125 total? If it's $125 for all four speakers, you're **** out of luck. Getting new speakers for a 4x12 shouldn't cost you any less than $250, and that's for the cheapest Eminences (the ones worth buying), and used at that.

If you want two swamp thangs and two texas heats, I'd go for it, as it'd be a good combination for what you want to do. Know, however, that it'll run you about $400.

Re: Good replacement speaker 4 my cab

if celestion v30s with G12t75 are killer for metal, shouldn't the equivalent governor+manowar be the best choice in eminence?

Re: Good replacement speaker 4 my cab

I know a dude that swears those Randall Jaguars are the ****. What don't you like about them? I'm pretty sure they're V30 copies.

$125 per speaker

Re: Good replacement speaker 4 my cab

Bummer, like I said, I think they're Vintage 30 copies. In that case V30's would work, T75's make a good combo, especially for metal, and some dudes like V30/H30 together.

Eminence Governors and Legend V12's are similar to V30's, Man O Wars are similar to T75's, and Wizards are similar to G12H30's. They're all good speakers.

You def need to know how many ohms the Jags are.

Re: Good replacement speaker 4 my cab

I like G12-65 variants. They have more body which makes them sound much better at low volume and they sound very good at higher volume. It's a powerful round sound that I like better than the more aggressive or more plingy ones.

I got some WGS ET65 recently which are supposed to be like them. I didn't have time to A/B them yet but I didn't notice anything wrong. Cheap and effective as far as I can tell.

Re: Good replacement speaker 4 my cab

65's are awesome unless you want them to be tight at high volumes with low tunings and high gain. I love them, I really do, but they aren't good for everything.

I have no idea how close the ET's are to the real thing though.

Re: Good replacement speaker 4 my cab

And there yuou have it. Lots of different suggestions. And not to make things more difficult, I personally like Greenbacks.

Are there any bands that have tones that you are looking for? It might not e the best way to go about speaker choice, but it might get us close to what you are looking for.

I used to use the 65s and 75s together and they play nice with each other. At loud volumes, the 65s might not be as tight as you want, but the 75s keep on track pretty well. So, the 65s fill out that round top, middle and thick bottom end, and the 75s keep up for the crunchy highs and high mids.

I have 65's in one cab and 75's in the other, but that's my doom rig.

Re: Good replacement speaker 4 my cab

Thanks all. Im going 2 take a look at all sugestions, research and check utube

Re: Good replacement speaker 4 my cab

If they are indeed v30 copies, why not find a couple of used t75 and use that? Those things usually go pretty cheap, and the v30/t75 combo is tried and true.

Re: Good replacement speaker 4 my cab

King Izzo.. About to place a order the Eminence Governor Red Coat , and Eminence Man-O-War Red Coat correct? 4 Randall cab should I get the 8 or 16 Ohms?

Re: Good replacement speaker 4 my cab

Are you replacing all 4 speakers?

Is there a tag on the back of the cab that tells total impedance?

Last Randall cab I had was 8 ohms, but that was 10 years ago.

Re: Good replacement speaker 4 my cab

What does your amp want? I would forego the govs and just get the MOW's and pair them with the jags if it were me. You'd need to know what resistance the jags are in that scenario though. Do you have a meter? If they're 8 ohm speakers they'll read 5 or 6 ohms, 16 ohmers will read 13-14 ohms. If you're doing all four get what will work with your amp. 8 ohmers wire series-parallel will make an 8 ohm cab, 16's will make a 16 ohm cab when wired series-parallel or 4 ohms when wired straight parallel.

My Randall cab was 8 ohms with the stock speakers as well.
