Good replacement speaker 4 my cab

Re: Good replacement speaker 4 my cab

Eminence makes great speakers in the patriot and redcoat lines just pick your flavor.

I prefer them to current production Celestions.

Personally I don't play much metal I have been nothing but happy with the various Webers I own/owned. Right now I am rockin an AlNiCo Silver Bell and AlNiCo Blue Dog both are 16 ohm pre-rola 50 watters. These are a great pairing but at $215 a piece they would be a bit much for you.

Look at their ceramic models and their Legacy series you could find something in your budget.

Re: Good replacement speaker 4 my cab

Q on this topic:
I have a friend with a Randall 4x12 that has Jaguar speakers that are 4 ohm each. The cabinet is rated for 8 ohms mono and 4 ohm stereo.

I was about to start a new thread on these Jaguar speakers until I saw this one. I'm thinking about trading a pair of EV S200 PA speakers (300W RMS each) for his Randall 4x12. His is an older one and it's all solid plywood! Do you think this is a fair trade?

I was wondering if the Jaguars were strictly metal speakers or if they have a range. I would like to be able to use the cabinet with the stock speakers. My band uses Teles and an Epi Les Paul and plays rock, punk, ska, reggae and soul.

The stock speaker in my Traynor YCS50 is a Vintage 30. My amp takes 8 ohm cabs and can operate in 4 & 8 ohm. I assume that if I'm running the cab at 8 ohms mono I can also keep the combo's 8 ohm V 30 running?

Re: Good replacement speaker 4 my cab

If it's an 8 ohm mono/4 stereo the speakers are 8 ohm speakers, just so you know.

Don't know anything about the PA speakers. Randall cabs are good solid cabs though, and you can usually find them pretty cheap.

I've only heard the Jags used for metal, but I'm guessing that being reasonably similar to V30's that they can be used for other stuff too.

You'll have to consult the user manual for the Traynor, some trannys are wired different. Maybe you can do it easy, maybe you'll have to get creative.

Re: Good replacement speaker 4 my cab

I opened up the Randall last night and it said 4 ohms on every speaker. the mono plug says 8 ohms below it, which is all I care about as I don't use stereo effects.

In hindsight I don't know why I posted the last Q about the running the combo speaker and 4x12. As long as they're both 8 ohms I can't see my Traynor having a problem with it's selector on 4 ohms.

Somethings not right here, parallel-series you could have 4 ohm mono/8 ohm stereo, but there's no way to do the opposite with 4 ohm speakers.

Series-parallel (the way my Randall cab came stock) with 8 ohmers does what you say it's labeled as.

I'm just suggesting you check and make sure you didn't get something backwards here before you plug in your amp.

do a youtube search of "guitar speaker comparison" or something and you'll find alot of comparisons. it's amazing how much better the celestions sound, imo, compared to EV. of course your computer speakers don't show you the full spectrum but you get a good general idea.

I'll have to look again. I quickly dropped by my friend's after work (double shift of waiting tables) just to check it out and crashed as soon as I got home, so my memory might not be correct.

The EVs I referred to are two 1x12+horn PA cabinets, and they are amazing for small gigs.

I've seen the Rivera video where they test 15 different 12" speakers. I've yet to find any videos comparing the Randall Jaguar speakers with a Celestion or Eminence speaker. All the youtube videos I've clicked on with Randall cabs so far have been metal. That's not surprising, but it's also not terribly helpful
