Gordon Smith Guitars. British handmade guitars....educate me.

I know that Nuntius and Brow know all about these guitars, but they are relatively unknown in the US. Are these really good guitars, or just average?
One trademark I've noticed is brass nuts. I'm curious to hear people's comments on this brand.

I played a few quite a while back @ the Musikmesse. If Memory serves, they were solid and well crafted, with good necks....I don´t think I thought they were anything special, though......but take into account that this is 7 years ago, and I played 2 strat style axes for about 10 minutes each, so not really a long time, either....

what i've gathered from max, is that the whole making of the axe and customer service is what made the axes special, even though they might be on par or a tad better than other manufacturers

Gordon Smith Guitars are all about the playability imo.

John Smith (who actually makes the guitars) builds guitars to be practical, to play great and to get the job done.

They're not the fanciest looking guitars on the planet (by John's own admission) but they generally play and sound great and are well made instruments.
