Got a chance to trade for a MIJ Jackson should I

I have an old Fender Acustronic SFX II acoustic rig that I have been trying to sell locally.

Last night this guy hit me and wants to straight up trade me this Jackson for it.
Amp is worth around $550 in real money. Don't know the market on this particular guitar and eBay is all over the map on these on the actual sales. Is this one worth that kind of $$??

It's a beautiful Jackson. I can't speak to the value, but if it were me I would make the trade.

check ebay completed listings for a dk2m. those guitars have sold for $250 - $350
so $600 seems pretty high price

Yeah man, the maple necks are sought after, and they're awesome guitars, but you can get them hella cheaper than that still. In 10 years or so look out.

Re: Got a chance to trade for a MIJ Jackson should I

I had a MIJ Jackson DXMG about 12-13 years ago and it was very nice for the price - the fretwork was excellent and it came set up pretty well if I remember correctly (not as well as my schecter came set up, but pretty damn good). I might go for it - Jacksons are cool.

Re: Got a chance to trade for a MIJ Jackson should I

I cant pull the craigslist here at work, but if its a DK2m, those are pretty killer. I think the question is mostly, do you need cash for the amp? Or would you rather have the guitar? And if it is the Dk2m, $600 is kinda steep

Re: Got a chance to trade for a MIJ Jackson should I

I like those guitars a lot, but as others have said, $600 seems like too much. I'd expect more in a used MIJ Jackson for that -- like an old SL3 or an RR5.

Re: Got a chance to trade for a MIJ Jackson should I

I have 1 of the more common white/maple DK2Ms and after a bit of work it's a nice guitar.

I can't really talk about the price though as we pay £s and always pay more than you guys do in $s :D

Re: Got a chance to trade for a MIJ Jackson should I

I think that 550.00 used value on your amp might be wishfull thinking.
I've seen DK2M's go pretty reasonably. From my experience, the neck pocket is different than an old Dinky, not that thats
necessarily bad. I tried putting a 90's Jackson Professional 90's neck on a DK2M body, and it wouldn't fit right- too much slop. So the neck pocket is wider, or doesn't have as tight tolerance as an older Jackson body. Hardly a scientific study, but just my experience in that one instance.

Re: Got a chance to trade for a MIJ Jackson should I

In looking at completed listings they both seemed really close in actual completed listing sale $. I didn't have much $ in the amp and was trading even. The amp was gathering dust + was looking like I would have to ebay and ship it to get any decent money out of it so I grabbed the Jackson tonight.
Here are some quick photos it plays and sounds great!

That looks awesome! I think you made a good choice considering the fact that the amp wasn't getting any use. And yes, you would have probably had to sell the amp on Ebay, which means dealing with a %10 fee to ebay, 2.9% per $100 for paypal and then you'd have to deal with shipping it , which would be a pain in the ass. What model is the guitar? Mine was pretty much an entry level jackson, but the only noticeable difference in mine was the rosewood fretboard. I'm almost positive yours is a much nicer one: I'm thinking it might have a better tremolo system and better pups.

It's a MIJ DK-2 pickups are Duncan with a JB and 59. MSR on this particular guitar new was right at a grand ($999) in the Red Swirl Street was in the mid $700's.

nevermind, I finally was able to pull up the CL post. Yeah, that guitar is pretty sweet: Duncan pickups and original Floyd Rose - NICE! Definitely a good trade

Cool!
From what I understand, the 1st run of "other" imports like that had some kinda neck pocket issues.but could be mistaken...

Don't think you can go wrong w/a MIJ,tho, esp w/teh amp none-use/selling shipping PITA...

WIN!!!

Re: Got a chance to trade for a MIJ Jackson should I

My DK2M had stock JB/Jazz when I got it, not a 59' as above.

Found the exact guitar model listed with specs and the MSRP and they said it had the 59 neck. It sounds more like it has the Jazz to me instead of a 59 though so you may be right here. Have not pulled it to take a look yet.
I'm REALLY digging the JB in the bridge on this particular guitar!
The JB can be a fickle pickup and when it's in the wrong guitar be really WRONG but when it's right they can also be pure magic and this one so far seems right!

FWIW, Japanese Jacksons were made at the Chushin factory in Nagano Prefecture which went bankrupt and closed a few years ago. You won't find new Japanese Jacksons. These will become collector's items.

Re: Got a chance to trade for a MIJ Jackson should I

That is one beautiful axe, and if you traded it for something that was just gathering dust??? SCORE!!! I had a DK2 and an SL3 and both were outstanding guitars. Many years of hard rocking wished for you, bro. Congratulations.

Re: Got a chance to trade for a MIJ Jackson should I

Agreed, can't talk about monetary value but it looks freakin' AMAZING. Congrats bro!!!
Happy New Guitar Day :headbang:!!!
