Got my new guitar (review)

Okay I finally got a new guitar after weeks of waiting for the godin and it never coming, I went to the shops played a heap of guitars, liked a few that were in my price range. But there was one guitar just out of my price that knocked me of my feet, the belman double cutaway grand, best guitar I ever played full stop. No other guitar except for an $8000 PRS i played compared to this thing. Anyways, i really wanted to buy this guitar, I had the cash, parents didn't want me to spend that much. talked them into it, and today I got it. The neck reminds me of an SG, the pickups are sweet, hand wired in aus, i'm not sure if installing seymours will make an improvement.

The bridge is like a slightly hotter more classic rock version of the custom custom. But feed it more distortion and it does some very nice chuka chuka palm mutes. It can handle classic rock to metal, but not insane screeching or anythin. So its perfect for me.

The top of the guitar is a highly figured AAAAA mountain ash, I'm told, looks like it. The headstock is gidgee, one of the nicest woods ive seen. and the body is queensland maple, which is similar to mahogany, I was told theres no tone differance, maybe its the mountain ash top but it sounds like theres just slightly less highs then a mahogany with maple top, so thats nice.

Push/pull volume knob to split coils (sounds great split), 3 way selector.

Anyway overall I'd say the guitar reminds me of a cross between a top end les paul and a SG standard but throw in a PRS in the mix. The neck pickup is fat and reminds me of a les paul, the bridge seems to me not so fat, but more like an SG, not as thin and a little hotter though.

So yeh, my favorite guitar ever, when i started shopping I never thought I'd get something this good, so im happy. No pictures yet, i will post some later, I've got a link of what the guitar looks like though, mine is a differant color. Sorry

Re: Got my new guitar (review)

got them down to $2700
seen them for sale for around $3300 to 3800 though.
I'd like to also say the shop I dealt with, bily hydes, was excellant, the people I dealt with were great, knew what they were talking about and one guy said in 3 months if I came back he'd set it up again and buff the frets and everything. Very nice.

shiiiiiit! Its nice and all, but i'd never see myself layin that much on a guitar....

Youd better enjoy that thang mate!

Re: Got my new guitar (review)

my budget was way under that... it just kinda happened. I was playing like 1500 guitars when the guy told me to try this guitar, went over got it plugged it in... and yeh... i couldn't not buy it, its just one of those guitars that call 2 u:smack:

Awesome score, Pecan! Here in Australia, gear is sold at an extremely high price. If the guitar lives up to your word, then you're one lucky dude!

Congrats Pecan!

That pic you posted is a fine looking guitar. But we need pics of YOURS :bigthumb: Where are they made? I've never heard of them.

And what color did you get?

Re: Got my new guitar (review)

Nice guitar. I like it because it's similar to a McCarty, but has the tunomatic bridge and the electronic layout is my favorite. I really love the 3 way toggle there, since your hand can swipe it easily. I've never heard of them either.

Are you talking about US or AUS currency? How much is a PRS McCarty in comparison, since that's basically what the guitar looks like.

Re: Got my new guitar (review)

Hand made in Australia, I paid $2700 which is about $2000-2100 in american. A McCarty normaly ranges anywhere from $4500 Aus to $5500 Aus. Pics will come in a few hours when I get my bros camera.

5500 Aussie dollars is about 4000 American dollars. Almost double of what you guys pay domestically!!
