Got my Peavey Windsor yesterday.....YAY!!!!! I think.

Re: Got my Peavey Windsor yesterday.....YAY!!!!! I think.

It makes me wonder what an amp like that would sound like with point to point wiring. That and as I said, proper bias. From what I've heard, some companies run their tubes fairly cool which increases tube longevity, but diminishes tone. Something called "crossover distortion" occurs when tubes run too cold, and it tends not to be acoustically pleasant.

Probably not a whole lot different.

I've become convinced that it really doesn't matter whether it's point to point or a circuit board. What makes the difference is the components used. Because when you look at most circuit board amps, you'll notice that they didn't use the best components, or in the case of the Crate Blue Voodoo, they used the cheapest and crappiest components they could scrape off the bottom of the barrel.

Then you take an amp like a Splawn, which sounds great, and open it up. Guess what? You'll see circuit boards in there too, but you'll also see good components.

Not that radically different. In fact a well laid out PCP will sound better than a badly laid out PTP design

This is hog wash... crossover distortion occurs when tubes are biased extremely cold. This is way below what companies bias their amps at. And dont buy into the crap that cooler bias has less tone many times the guys who run their amps hot have them so hot that it only sounds good at low levels in their bedroom but the when cranked up the sound thins out and starts to fart.
