GraphTech StringSaver Strat saddles

CTN

The Drama Dude
Got a set today.

I've never liked the vintage bent-steel saddles on my Strat, and since putting a beefy humbucker in the bridge position, I decided that it deserves some more juicy thickness.

Anyone had any experience with Graph tech saddles? what'd they do for your tone?

Re: GraphTech StringSaver Strat saddles

In my strat, I noticed that the highs got a bit warmer and the lows lost a tiny bit of twang.

Re: GraphTech StringSaver Strat saddles

i've got some! i'm a big fan of them. my tele deluxe has sustain like nobody's business, and i can't say that the saddles are the reason but they sure don't seem to hurt.

plus the vintage style was literally cutting up my hand when i tried to palm mute. anything was an upgrade over that! but i'm really loving these saddles.

Re: GraphTech StringSaver Strat saddles

I have them on my PRS SE. I can't say I noticed a significant difference in tone, but they do help the guitar stay in tune during some trem use.

They're also really comfortable to palm mute on.

Re: GraphTech StringSaver Strat saddles

i think you lose a little snap and it warms up the tone a touch. i just got the newer string saver classics and they seem to keep a little more of the snap compared to the regular string savers

Re: GraphTech StringSaver Strat saddles

I use both the String savers as well as the Ferraglides. The Ferraglides I don't think lose anything yet I have yet to break a string. I think in all cases of going to graphite the tonal difference is barley noticeable. It was to stop breaking strings that led me to graphite. They work great for me.

Re: GraphTech StringSaver Strat saddles

I'm a bent steel guy myself, I did have a problem with string breakage on my stock Strat bridge but once I put the Callaham bridge in, I have yet to break a string. Nothing against string savers tho, they worked great on my Carvin Strat and didn't rob sustain at all, the tone loss I think is negligible and most would never notice the difference (except tone freaks like us).

Re: GraphTech StringSaver Strat saddles

I've been using GraphTech saddles since 1998 (as I recall). I first started using them because the stock saddles on my PRS Custom 24s were causing string breakage at gigs too often for my tastes. I could get just over one night's worth before breaking, whereas with the saddles I could get 2-3 nights. At the time I was pretty consistently gigging every Fri and Sat. So I liked being able to only have to change sets once a week on each axe.

Anyways... I've got GraphTechs on ALL of my electrics and always will. My strats have them, my tele has them, and all three of my ESP EC-400 LP clones have them. They are VERY helpful on the LP style guitars because of those sharp Tune-O-Matic saddles.

As far as tone/feel goes, any differences are barely noticeable to my ears/fingers. Pretty much the first thing I do to any new axe is to replace the stock saddles with them.

The customer service is great too. In fact, I had a bunch of email exchanges with the owner's daughter last year (Tara Dinwoodie) over the LP saddles. Very helpful.

Re: GraphTech StringSaver Strat saddles

I have some on my black Strat. I don't think I lost treble, but mids and bass definitely jumped out a bit more after the upgrade. I think this is why people say that treble is lost; it's only quieter relative to the mids and lows.

If you have a shrill or plinky Strat, the Graphtecs can help balance it out.

Keep in mind that I was upgrading from 90's MIM Strat saddles that were literally falling apart (the saddle would no longer stay on the screw). I think short of constructing saddles out of chocolate chip cookie dough, anything would have been better.

My other Strat is a newer MIM with bent steel saddles and a bigger block. It sounds great, and I have no reason to upgrade.

Re: GraphTech StringSaver Strat saddles

true..

Well thing is I've always disliked that snappy kinda overly vibrant sound I get from the bent steel. I've always wanted my strat to sound a bit warmer and more full bodied rather than bright and twangy (as twangy as strats get anyway)

Re: GraphTech StringSaver Strat saddles

I wish they made them for 2 1/8" spacing, so I could put them on this Warmoth bridge.

They only offer them in 2 1/16" and 2 3/16". I tried to just use the 2 1/16" ones, but the wiggle room really threw off the stability.

Re: GraphTech StringSaver Strat saddles

Graph Tech products are great! One thing I've really liked about them is the warmth and balance they impart. I've used them on my Epiphone Les Paul and Gibson Firebird VII, both with good success. My PRS McCarty came stock with a graphite nut and that guitar sounds amazing, so I'm all for Graph Tech products.

Re: GraphTech StringSaver Strat saddles

Will these work on the Gotoh 6-hole vintage trems that Warmoth sells?

this one? they should! i don't know if graphtech has a set designed specifically for that string spacing, but if they do then yeah they should definitely work. even just slightly smaller should work, although somebody here had said they had a set slightly too small and the saddles slipped around. i have a smaller set on one of my guitars and never had slipping issues.

Re: GraphTech StringSaver Strat saddles

I have a set on my 7 string as it was purchased that way. for what it sounds like your wanting I think you would like them. As others said they will warm up the sound a bit which it sounds like that's what you want. I would say it seems like they compress even you unplugged tone a bit but thats not always a bad thing.
