Green stains on neck, how to remove?

I guess it is due to the acidic content of the sweat in the palms. How do you go about removing the stains?

The wood, on the back of the neck..

If its in the wood, it may be hard to get out because wood is very porous. Why remove it? its character from playing! lol

Not appreciated if I'm gonna sell it ! ;)

Re: Green stains on neck, how to remove?

you could try a spot treatment of wood bleach, but i really don't know how that is likely to affect the surrounding finish.

if it's really that much of an annoyance, the logical cure would be to remove any remnants of finish in the discoloured spot, as well as a little bit of the surrounding area, then and down to bare wood until you get past the stain, then re-finish/match the existing finish.

in other words: probably a huge pain in the ass that is more trouble than it's worth.

got a pic?

Yeah, that does sound like a hassle :/

Re: Green stains on neck, how to remove?

what kinda finish is that? lacquer? polyurethane? oil?

Re: Green stains on neck, how to remove?

Oil finish.. It is very thin at least!

Re: Green stains on neck, how to remove?

oh okay. if you can find the same kinda oil, then just sand down until you get past the stain. sand up to about 400 or 600 grit, and start rubbing in oil.

piece of cake with an oil finish.
much harder to do with lacquer or urethane.

Re: Green stains on neck, how to remove?

Be really careful how much you sand, you could easily end up with a shallow dip in the area you sanded. Might end up looking worse than just leaving stain there, and it could feel odd. If I was buying a guitar I'd prefer a stain on the neck over a dip where one used to be.

Re: Green stains on neck, how to remove?

Leave it be, or just oil over it. Nobody who you want to deal with anyhow is gonna ding the value for that in an oil finish. Hell, lots of idiots pay extra for **** like that!
