Gretsch and high gain ??

Re: Gretsch and high gain ??

I've used 'Trons with a fair amont of gain and had no issue, thought they sounded great actually.

Re: Gretsch and high gain ??

Tim Armstrong (Rancid) has a sig Gretsch that I think sounds pretty good under higher gain. Play one and if you like it get it, don't worry if it won't nail those Metallica tones 100%, craft your own tone.

Re: Gretsch and high gain ??

I believe they're inbetween $1,000-1,500 but don't quote me.

Re: Gretsch and high gain ??

I actually, just out of curiosity and boredom, called Long & McQuade, they're 1150$ without a case, and a case is 80$.

The G5435 w/Bigsby is 700$.

Re: Gretsch and high gain ??

The Tim Armstrong might just be my calling, a beautiful Gretsch hollowbody, that the actual artist uses with gain, and is made so it doesnt feed back (There's a video or two showing that perfectly). Has individual tone knobs which is perfectly made for me, coming from my Strat setup.

The guitar is a bit expensive but its something that im willing to save for.

Re: Gretsch and high gain ??

Well, the clip you posted is nice but hardly high gain. If you only plan on using this for vintage tones like what you posted then any Gretch is perfectly suited

Check out ANY Living End for great Gretch tones in a modern rock context

Re: Gretsch and high gain ??

I play mostly classic rock, and old metal, and some nice clean sounds.

Well that, and add two more gain points on the amp and thats as far as i go anyways. i dont use distortion pedals or other effects, i like to keep it simple.

Thanks :D i'll make sure to check those out.

Re: Gretsch and high gain ??

I'm ashamed I forgot The Living End

Re: Gretsch and high gain ??

Nudeswirl did the Gretsch feedback thing pretty well.

Re: Gretsch and high gain ??

The whole album is like that. A swirl of jangly, distorted, feedback laced weirdness.

Thats very creative and original :P they're using something on a guitar most other guitarists would consider a nuisance when playing.

Re: Gretsch and high gain ??

This is the best I can do at the moment with a buzz, a blackstar ht-5, and a Gretsch White Falcon.

You'll have to totally crank up the volume to hear what I'm saying at the beginning, but you can hear the guitar, amp, and crappy playin decently after I run my mouth.

Get you a Black Falcon buddy, you'll love it.;):)

Re: Gretsch and high gain ??

That sounds amazing. I love the bite and jagged edge that Gretsch gets!
Woud'nt want to go any higher gain than that with a Gretsch, thats the perfect amount- a lot higher than the typical rockabilly. Thats not really waht i would call Balls out Super high gain, and a Gretsch won't do that IMO, but it sounds great.
