Gretsch Electromatic 5125 w/ P-90s?

Re: Gretsch Electromatic 5125 w/ P-90s?

Not any way that I know of...those pickups are DeArmond Dynasonics which are surface mount pickups and P-90's mount in a pickup route in the body...that guitar is fully hollow...You might be able to make dog ear P-90's work but it's all gonna depend on the height of the pickups and so on...

Best bet, find a different guitar...there are loads of cool low buck hollows wiht P-90 in them.

Also, FWIW...if I were you I'd find one those 5125's and try it...those DeArmond pickups are not P-90's but they are very cool sounding pickups.

Re: Gretsch Electromatic 5125 w/ P-90s?

P90's in a Gretsch is just sort of dumb if you ask me. A Gretsch deserves real Filtertron's or Dynasonics. TV Jones Classics can't be beat for the classic Filtertron sound but I hear GFS isn't half bad for a lot less money. I've got the TV Jones Classic's in mine and they are simply awesome.

If you ask me, if you want to put p90's in something, don't waste a fine Gretsch. Go for some sort of Ibanez Artcore, Hagstrom or any other semi or full hollow body.

Nothing again'st P90's, but a Gretsch is just such a classic it wouldn't be right

Re: Gretsch Electromatic 5125 w/ P-90s?

yep to millsart...no p90s in a gretsch. the world would explode...and we don't want that do we now?

Re: Gretsch Electromatic 5125 w/ P-90s?

It's an MIK Gretsch there is no foul putting P-90's in it.

Try the TV-HT's from TV Jones.

Re: Gretsch Electromatic 5125 w/ P-90s?

in the electromatic jets with the filtertron type whatever pickups they can be swapped with p90's without mods

but on those hollows, man you'd be better off gettin the one with humbuckers & gettin hum sized p90s

Re: Gretsch Electromatic 5125 w/ P-90s?

I would like the world to explode so get P90's on that guitar by any means necessary please and thanks.

Re: Gretsch Electromatic 5125 w/ P-90s?

Dude, you're insane. The entire reason you buy that guitar is for the Dynas, which what many people believe is the finest pickup ever made. I prefer Filters, but it's close.

Dynas are much hotter than P90s, btw.

Re: Gretsch Electromatic 5125 w/ P-90s?

they're not real dynasonics, though

they're dearmond 2000's or something

I understand and agree, but you can upgrade to real Dynas unless you route. Once you route, you can never go back.

Real Dynas are the tits! There's a reason Duncan charges $450/pair.

Re: Gretsch Electromatic 5125 w/ P-90s?

I wouldn't switch to P90's in that guitar. Those DeArmonds are pretty close to P90's as is.

Re: Gretsch Electromatic 5125 w/ P-90s?

Totally and completely out of the question if you're talking about a reasonable tone investment.

Re: Gretsch Electromatic 5125 w/ P-90s?

I was looking at the 5120s and I know for sure I could P-90s or a bucker P-90 (Dream 90/Phat Cat) but I love the red top, white binding and black back and the 5120 is available in black, natural, sunburst and on MF a deep cherry stain that the Gretsch website doesn't have listed. Ah well...

Re: Gretsch Electromatic 5125 w/ P-90s?

so get over it, rock out some orange, it'll be good for you

red & black guitars aren't all that cool

The Electromatic Oranges I've played really aren't the same shade of classic Gretsch orange like the Chet Atkins Nashvilles etc

The electros are sort of a darker stain. I honestly didn't find it to appealing either
