i had the gt-6, i love the effects. stellar and good for recording, cd quality with stereo capabilites.
but i really hate the amp modeling... i usally bypass the amp modeling and just go directly to the effects. i use my vox valvetronix for my drive

I want one really bad, too, for the exact reason Mincer described. The GT-6 was great, so I can't imagine the 8 being anything but spectacular.

I love that on my -8. The effects are superb and the modeling is fantastic. One of my fave sounds is mixing a clean Vox model with a driven Matchless. Cool grind with sparkle.

ya the 2 amps at once sounds wild..... only Boss/Roland multiFX unit i own is an old rack mount unit from the 80's called the GP8... it's great as it is just a bunch of anolog Boss circuits in a midi rack unit.... basicly it works wonders in front of my C50 amp...
but i've been eyeing newer Boss multi FX units for 10 years or better now.... and the GT-8 for some reason looks like a winner.... I wonder how it compares to the POD LIVE....

i dont think it would be that good live. too digitally and tone robbing. if you are putting effects on clean tones they should be between the amp and the speakers. gt-8 cant do that. it is alot of money. I like this instead:

Sorry guy, but played through a quality speaker cab or through the PA, no one will know you're not playing a tube amp. AS far as being able to put the GT-8 in a loop, you can definately do it. In fact, you can configure it to have OD/Distortion effects in front of your amp and modulation/delay effects in your loop. You can also do channel switching of your analog amp right on the GT-8.

I figured you just got a loop for effects pedals through the gt-8 and that was it
i admit just took a peak at the gt-8 on ebay

Do the effects on this unit really compare to the pedals ? I was planning to buy a DD-3 delay pedal and honeslty all the extra routings and presets of the gt-8 would make life so much simplier than trying to reconnect pedal chains order and/or tweak knobs between songs
I've never been too thrilled with any of the digital multi fx units I've tried, such as digitechs. I've always much prefer seperate pedals though being Boss, I have to wonder if they really does sound like their pedals or just digital recreations of them ?

wow so the GT8 has an OUT jack after the OD/DIST part of the effects and an in and out for the time based FX's in the loop of the amp..... WOW!!!! I'm liking it more and more...
i've never gigged with a multiFXer and most likely not anytime soon.... when gigging i prefer low tech toys over high tech toys... a tube amp and a few FX pedals and i'm there... besides what is a good loud tube amp for but gigging.... but that being said the tech toys have me looking... and i'm always buying stuff for my bedroom practice set ups...

I think a multi fx with the ability to switch the routings around, change the settings with a touch of a button, change what parameter is assigned to a pedal with each patch etc would be ever so useful live.
I think its a huge pain to have to reach down and change settings for each song and I'm certainly not rich enough to be able to have 2 or 3 of a given pedal just to have "presets"
That all said though, I really do like having dedicated pedals for a given effect. I like being able to pick my exact brand of wah, chorus, delay etc and not have on brands take on what each effect should sound like. I'm sure for example the boss chorus sounds perfectly fine, but then again, if the Visual Sound H20 is more to my taste after trial and error, it would be hard to do away with it and use the multifx just for the sake of ease of use.....

i've owned all the latest multi-effects pedals including the gt-8, pod xt live, digitech gx300, and vox tonelab se. by far, in my opinion, the gt-8 was the best.
i only have one recording that i did with it, but it didn't come out very good. unfortunately i have no way now of demonstrating the tones you can get with it, but i assure you it's awesome.
it doesn't have as much amp modeling as the xt, but plenty enough to use and the modeling is much better quality. i think it's the most realisting sounding amp modeling you can get. the effects are pro quality and sound just like the pedals to me. i love the reverb, delay, and chorus. you can get much more distortion and overdrives than on the pod which limits you to stomps.
the only thing about the gt-8 though is that you have to get used to the gain settings. it's very sensetive and if you add to much gain on certain amp models, it will get noisy or hissy. once you get the hang of it though you can get some serious tones.
