Guessing game

This is kinda silly but... I bought a new used guitar online from guitar center. It's an early 2000s Gibson les Paul Gothic. I had one in my 20's but it was stolen from my car. Finally found one at a decent price.

From the pics I see the stock 490r/ 498t have been swapped for 2 duncans. Both bridge pups. The neck is installed upside down. (upside-down logo, that would drive me battier than the screws slugs being upside down)

What do you think they are? Lol

I'm guessing a Custom and... 59b?

Hoping for a SH6 and and custom /59 hybrid. Apologies in advance for this. Just for fun!

I also have a guitar with 2 pups, but with NO logos (they also have nickle covers on them). Can you guess which pups they are?

Re: Guessing game

How do you know they're both bridge pickups if you don't even know what they are? If they sound good and work well together, you can put whatever pickups you want in. Take the screws out of the rings and take them out to see the markings on the bottom.

Unless someone ordered an upsidedown neck pickup that's a bridge pickup in the neck. JB/JB is fairly common. You'd need to know the DCR or the stickers on the bottom to know any better than that.

But he also said upside down logo. You can put pickups upside down and it really doesn't matter much.

So you're trying to say that there is a considerable chance that the previous owner of the guitar intentionally bought a neck pickup with an upsidedown logo to put in the neck of a guitar as opposed to the fairly common practice of putting a bridge pickup in the neck reversed so that the screws/poles appear to be standard?

Re: Guessing game

Anything is possible. Lol Anyway, he is wondering what they are, and we won't know until he pulls them out.

Re: Guessing game

He’s asking us to speculate what a Gothic owner would have replaced the pickups with, then I assume when it arrives we get the answer.

My guess is SH-6/SH-1b.

Yeah, this was the point. Literally guess for fun. I'll pull them out when I get it tomorrow.

PS I hope you're right

This is what I meant by upside-down logo

They installed a pick up so that the logo is upside down. I was assuming it was a bridge pup flipped because of the orientation of the screws and slugs.

Ah, I got it. Didn't realize you didn't have the guitar yet and you only had pics. Well, I look forward to seeing what you've got in there.

As long as they sound good, cool. You could always flip it back around if it bothers you that much.

Re: Guessing game

Well.... JB in the bridge and and Pearly Gates Bridge in the neck.

Interesting!

Re: Guessing game

The pearly gates in the neck was a little dark, and the JB sounded pretty good. JB is pretty honky in the les paul though. I swapped them out for a set of modified invaders (removed big hex caps and replaced with dimarzio style set screws) I had lying around. They're more up my alley
