if you were to aquire an ash guitar body, what would you do about the finish? i'm talking about if you were doing it yourself. any views on the best/easiest methods etc?
surf green w/ a matching headstock or shell pink w/ a matching headstock. maybe even coral.
as for easiest, except for needing one of those respirator masks, an explosion proof fan, and one of a good work area. i reccomend reranch like zerb said
1st and for most.Ash has to be grain filled (IMO) Being a Newbie your looking at 4 to 5 applications B4 you get it right. (I do it 2X's regardless) Cuz' there is alway that one pour you may have missed that rears it's ugly head in post production.:smack: Like Zerb said check out reranch.

It's a separate product, But it does work with the grain filler.
(i.e.) after your done grain filling use the S&S. This is the point where you want to find any missed area's. Inspect cafefully after you S&S.

I finished an ash Tele body for my first attempt - had to do it over 3 times. Getting every single pore filled is a nightmare, even following ReRanch 101 to the letter. It might look fine today, then you find pinholes weeks later. Whatever you do, don't try black for your first color! It shows every imperfection.
Don't mean to discourage you - it simply is a lot harder to get a factory finish than you may think. Doing a clear or natural type finish is probably much easier in terms of being more forgiving.
