i wonder if anyone has expirience with guitar poweramps such as
the tech 21 power engine and rocktron velocity?

i wonder what's their right to exist. if i don't understand it wrong, any
power amp of quality would be the same? i for instance would trust a
good ol qsc more than a eg tech21 power amp.

Re: Guitar PowerAmps?

A lot of guitarists play through power amps. Many like to have solid modeling or multi-effect preamps for their tone shaping. In reality, any stompbox should work fine as long as it has a desirable tone. There are many companies which make power amps and pre amps if you're interested, such as Marshall, VHT, Mesa/Boogie, Carvin, Engl. Kurt Cobain frequently used a solid state Crown power amp with a Tech 21 modeler in his live rig. My main amp is kind of like a power amp, since it has no preamp knobs on it whatsoever; it doesn't even have a volume knob. I have a Vox ToneLab which I use sometimes, but mostly, I like using a single distortion box for tone processing.

solid state power amps are pretty much the same. i use a few of the randall rp2/200 amps because they discontinued them and i got them for basically nothing. no difference between something like that or a crown, qsc, ect.

tube power amps are a different story

great, i didn't know that. i just thought it should be possible due to my
sansamp can run into effect returns or power amps

sure tube amps sound better. that's why i mentioned only ss guitar
poweramps.
ever anyone compared ss to tube poweramps? are they worth the
money? can i operate them with power amp distortion? :)
(must be dangerous, i just blew a 35 w speaker with an 17w tube amp -
what may a overdriven 90w amp do?)
