Guitar Stands

Since we have moved into the house last month, I have been laying my guitars down on or in their cases when not playing them. I am not sure what I will do with them once I get the room done the way I want to do it, ie hang them up on simple hangers, some sort of framed display, etc. But currently I am looking for an inexpensive multi-guitar stand.

I know searching Amazon there are a ton of them and a lot of the reviews for the lesser inexpensive ones can be a bit questionable, even the ones listed on Sweetwater, etc are a bit iffy unless I pay a couple hundred bucks, which I dont want to do current. But Id also like to get them up so they are not laying on their cases on the floor.

Anyone have a suggestion for an inexpensive 5 guitar stand that wont fall over or collapse when looking at it.
 
I don't know what causes it, but some stands mess up nitro. Best keep your eye out for that if you have any.
 
I made myself one out of some 1x12, 1x6, and three lengths of 2x4. It holds seven guitars. Put together with screws and glue, it's not fancy, but it's worked great for 9 years through a few moves. Materials were less than $50. The one thing I will probably do at some point is replace the weatherstripping foam padding with some kind of fabric or carpet.

I have a Proline 5 at the space that gets moved around and is still pretty sturdy. I also have a 7 at home that is rock solid. I did not spend over a hundred for either of them. Just keep away from Musician's Gear and the other budget stand makers and you will be fine.

I wish I had those skills and tools and the drive to do this sort of thing.
 
I have the shop and tools, but all the meds I'm taking now kill the drive. But I still might try to build one. I have too many guitars "leaning" around.
 
I've had every kind of wall hanger and floor stand made. I have taken them all down and replaced them with enough of the following to hold about 4 dozen guitars. These are by far the best and most space efficient and don't use up any floor space and don't get accidentally kicked over.

By the way, I have several dozen individual wall hangers that I would gladly sell for a dollar each (to cover packaging) plus shipping to anyone who wants some (most of them cost $10-15 each and are in perfect condition). Some of them are nice looking wooden bases, some are black metal bases.

Yes, I had to take my Ovation Deacon off that stand but everything else I have no problem.
 
I have a couple of Hercules wall-mount hangers that I use at the house. Sometimes I'll get a stand out of I have more than 2 out at a time, usually when doing maintenance on them or working on a friend's guitar. For floor storage I have a Hercules double stand that I use on stage and a single that I bought specifically for a guitar I no longer have but it's perfect for my Jazz bass when I use it. I had an On-Stage 5 guitar floor stand for many years and it was solid.
 
I love wall hangers

but with my current headless obsession I can not use them

I have tried the "install them upside down" method
which makes the hanger top heavy and more likely to rotate and throw the instrument to the floor

I have tried the "install strap and and loop over one leg" method
again not something I can trust without strap locks

is there a one piece hanger that works with headless?
some said certain versions of Hercules come with rotating foam that wedges the neck in

is this true? anyone?

I would check out headlessusa.com and see if they have heard of any wall hangers that work.
 
Thanks guys for the suggestions, I have some ideas I want to do when I get to working on the space which will include hanging the guitars from the walls but until they will have to live on some sort of rack temporarily.
