Well i am back again with my guitar dilemma, i am buying a new guitar on boxing day(so anxious), i play mainly sabbath, and maiden, most lately my own stuff i have played a couple(4-5) out of all those my favorite one was the epiphone les paul standard, really great feeling guitar, any recommendations?.



P.S my dealer carrys gibson,fender,PRS,Epiphone,Jackson,BC Rich, and Godin

How about a Gibson/Epiphone SG, very metal, if you ask me.

ya i am gonna try one of the epi SG's when i go to the music shop on friday, there actually cheaper than the epi les pauls, got any amp recommendations?

Gotta get that red stained SG or black, if available.

Amps, if you buy used and can play loud, get a Marshall JCM-800 (used) or DSL 50. Alot of people like Peavey Classic 30's. Not sure how they are for Metal, though. See if you can find Traynor amp, too. They have a clean and a dirty channel and they're made in Canada. Not really a Metal amp, but maybe with a pedal.

If you're playing at home and volume is a consideration, I would recommend a Vox AD30 or AD50 modelling amp. They are just good dirty fun. I don't recommend the AD15 because it doesn't have the power reducer. These are good starter amps for little money and they have a Tube in there. Watch out for the input jack, though. Make sure the nut is tight (but don't over-tighten it) or the jack may come loose and fall down inside. They model Marshall JCM-800, 900 (?), Meas Boogie and Soldano. Good for Metal :saeek:

Try the other modellers, too. Line 6, Roland Microcube, Tech 21. See which one you like.

No marshall's for me too much cash, didnt like any other modelers accept the tech 21 a very very nice modeler amp, but it was only ten watt lol.

O and i havent tried the vox yet.

The Vox is like $239 US and it ROCKs. I love the way the 10" speaker breaks up. I have the 60 watt vox with the 12 inch speaker and it's too loud for home use. What they do is take 12ax7 tube and use it in the power amp section. The 12ax7 is usually a pre-amp tube, but vox uses it to make a mini power amp and then amplifies it. So for all purposes, you have a solid state pre-amp and a tube power amp. NICE!

Becuase of the tube, you have to crank them for them to sound good IMO.
I was playing the 15 watt Vox at the store. I had it cranked to 1/2 with the built in flanger going, it was cranking, and this older dude walks around the isle to see what I was playing. He stops and says that thing has a built in flanger and shook his head and walked off. Modellers have come a long way and for home use they are ideal. But I still think the 15 watt vox is too loud for home use. I needed the 30 watt with the power soak. I crank everything on the 80's marshall setting and then use the dial on the back to get it down to bedroom volume while cooking the tube with the master on full. It's fun. It ain't the real thing, but it's fun as hell.
