Guitars that you like just the way they came

Re: Guitars that you like just the way they came

How do you know the pickups it came with are best without trying other ones? No matter how good she is, couldn't it be better?

I think there often comes a point when something is good enough that you'd rather play it as-is than try to improve (or even "improve") it. I hope, for the sake of the musician in each of us, that we spend some time with those guitars, too, and not just the ones in project stage.

Re: Guitars that you like just the way they came

My Charvel San Dimas is the only guitar that has never been tinkered with. Haven't changed a thing on my '52ri Tele either, but the previous owner told me he had one of the pickups replaced.

Re: Guitars that you like just the way they came

This BCRich Jr V Deluxe has been spot on and sounds great, never tweaked a single thing.

Re: Guitars that you like just the way they came

my Martin Acoustic/Electric for obvious reasons
my Ibanez SR500 series basses, they came with the Bartolini pickups and preamp
sound and play great

Re: Guitars that you like just the way they came

I've tweaked everything I own, from pickup heights to action. The very least adjustment I'll make is action, the most is a relocated strap pin, but I've not met a guitar that did not get some fine-tuning to my preference.

2004 Dean USA Pro Series Z

Hard to believe this is considered a factory second. Spot the Flaw. :23:

I did change the knobs to these Chickenheads. Everything else is such a great combo. Tonepros bridge and Grover tuners, Duncan 59N and JBB set in Mahogany body and neck with a Rosewood board and dots. Built by US Masters formerly made in Madison, Wn. but gone away now. :dunno:

I thought about changing the pickups on mine, then I took it to guitar center and shot it out with every bass there to see what direction I would go if I could. After I was done I decided..... naaaaaah. Plus nothing fits the bridge pickup's rout anyway.

I could be wrong but I think it's the indentations in the wood exactly where the tone knobs point to. There's two of them right at the edge.

Does it really matter? Looks phenomenal as-is :D

I interpreted that as "natural grain structure"....anyways, you are right, this guitar looks stunning!

Re: Guitars that you like just the way they came

Fender Relic Nocaster.
Fender Old Growth Redwood Tele-bration model
Fender AVRI '62 Jazz Bass
PRS "pre-lawsuit" Singlecut

Re: Guitars that you like just the way they came

Forgot about my '88/'89 PRS Cu24
Probably some of my favorite pickups of all time in that one (PRS T and B humbuckers)

Re: Guitars that you like just the way they came

My new blue Charvel is so close, but I will change pickups at some point. It's my first JB and while I'm surprised by how much I like the tone, I prefer the way pickups with 42awg feel.

Re: Guitars that you like just the way they came

Own 2
PINKY my 1990 Carvin X220C is one. She has a unique voice with the stock M22SD/M22V pickups that works for her well. I have owned a bunch of these guitars over the years and there has always been something special about this particular guitar and she will never be touched.

The other is my 2007 PRS CU 24 with the HFS/VB set up and the 5 way rotary. It has it's own voice that i REALLY like so it will never be modded.

Probably the only guitar I've ever bought new that didn't need any changes was a Gibson LP special DC. Great frets, action, pickups, setup etc.

Re: Guitars that you like just the way they came

Apart from setup, I've always had to install strap locks. So none. If that doesn't count, I really like my Schecter C7FR as it is.

Re: Guitars that you like just the way they came

My EBMM 25th Anniversary is untouched except for straplocks...and I only put them on to make it where I could use multiple straps.

Re: Guitars that you like just the way they came

Fender American Special Tele. Satin neck and Texas Specials, so it plays and sounds great. If I had gotten a regular Tele those are the things I would have done to it anyway. Might change the pickguard just for ****s and giggles though.
