has anybody tried the gravity storm yet?

Its sunday, I'm hungover and I don't feel like searching.

I'm thinking about trying some dimarzio pickups and I was leaning towards the PAF 36TH (or paf pro) in the neck and maybe a super distortion in the bridge. But, that's a pretty common combo and I got to thinking, what about a gravity storm bridge?

All in all, I'd like this LP to be fairly versatile but with emphasis on old school hard rock and metal.

Was my first choice of the 36th neck and SD on point or is there a better option that I'm overlooking. I'm very new to Dimarzio's lineup.

Amp would be a Dwarvenaut, guitar is a mahogany LP.

Re: has anybody tried the gravity storm yet?

I haven't tried it in an LP, but I have it in a Jackson Adrian Smith SDX and it killed any other dimarzio I tried in it, Super Distortion, Tone Zone (close second), and Evo2

Was it overly bright or was it more thick sounding? What did you like more about it

Re: has anybody tried the gravity storm yet?

Its I felt like its pretty thick while keeping the bass from being muddy, it has great note separation throughout the range and the highs stand out but without being shrill sounding. Its a good blend of vintage and modern

Re: has anybody tried the gravity storm yet?

Has anybody compared it to the Breed?

Re: has anybody tried the gravity storm yet?

And Injector in the neck and an Area 67 or 61 in the middle, can't remember which

Re: has anybody tried the gravity storm yet?

I'd probably try a Dominion set with your rig. I think it's aimed towards a bit tighter and brighter Breed.

I have never thought to look into that. I'm a total noob when it comes to Dimarzio stuff so all input is welcome.

Thanks.

Yo Big flange. What about a duel sound, super 2 or super 3?

Or if you really wanna be cool search for a dimarzio megadrive

Re: has anybody tried the gravity storm yet?

I have it in my 339. It is by far, the best bridge pickup I've ever heard. I have it paired with a DiMarzio PAF Joe in the neck. I'm totally satisfied with both as a combo and have no intentions of changing either out.

What style (s) are you using that guitar for?

Note my age.

British Blues like late 60s early 70s Jeff Beck, Clapton/Cream, etc, 70s Hard Rock and whatever else. I've also installed two P/P pots for tone controls so that I can switch either pickup from series to parallel.

Re: has anybody tried the gravity storm yet?

What the hell is a megadrive?

I think it was probably the first hybrid pickup. Supposedly a coil from the X2N and a coil from a PAF. Should be pretty versatile, Kerry King of Slayer used it for a while, and so did this old guy:

I agree, so far my favourite and it is far more versatile than I thought it would be. Very articulate, liquid warm fusion tones to be had.

Tried it in 3 guitars, like it better in trem guitars (Cu24, HH Strat) than my HH Tele.

Re: has anybody tried the gravity storm yet?

I'd recommend their D Activator-X ,very musical for a high output pickup .I also have a Megadrive in a mahogany body with floyd rose and it's not the right pickup for that combination - very middy to the point of nasalness (apparently not a word according to spell check? )

Re: has anybody tried the gravity storm yet?

If you can't do it with a PAF (regular, 36th, or Pro) and a SuperD, the problem is you.

Never really understood the 36th vs Regular PAF boo-ha…whatever.

I prefer a DiMarzio to a Duncan 59 - slightly.

I get where you're coming from. I don't think that experimenting with something a little more "off-the-wall" is a bad thing, but to each their own.

When I was looking into the pair last night I immediately thought of you since you're a big supporter of each. I'll probably end up with either the SD or 36th bridge with a 36th neck. Of course, this is subject to change before lunch.
