Has anyone ever hear of a guitar by the name....

Re: Has anyone ever hear of a guitar by the name....

How much is he asking for it? I may be interested. Seriously interested.

And yes, Akira had his Star built like Ed's with the Dano head. Akira Takasaki did for Japan's guitar community what EVH did for...everyone else. He's often referred to as the EVH of Japan, and for good reason.

I don't know. I asked him how much and he said to make an offer. I told him I'd let someone know that may be interested....so I did......here lol.

That's pretty far south of the Mississippi then ;) lol BUT with New Orleans below ya you might find some crazy stuff down there too ;)

You have no idea. The things I have seen in New Orleans when I was down there for the weekend with my wife just blows my mind. The history is pretty cool though.

Most of my family are in and around Hattiesburg, and grew up in New Orleans, so I know the area. I do not envy you for being there. In August.

Really. Wow what a small world it is. Where do you live now? Yes it is hot for sure, well, was it bearable now. Climbing power poles in 100 degree heat will get you along with the attics. I have that guys number, if you want it to try and speak to him about that thing but it's in my truck on my computer at the moment.

Not unless he can do PayPal. I'd offer $400 for it + fees and shipping. If he can't do PayPal, can you act as the intercessor? I can pay a finder's fee.

I'm also assuming the pic you posted is of the guitar in question?

I'm in West TN now. Been here since '89.

Honestly, that is not the guitar in question. That's a pic I found online since I didn't get a picture of it while I was in their house. Also, I can tell you that they have no idea what PayPal is. They couldn't plug a phone line into the back of a phone modem that has a phone jack in it. The body of the said guitar was in great shape. Fingerboard needed cleaning and a new set of strings. Didn't plug it in either, but all hardware was there. Probably would be better off installing a new volume pot, switch, and jack.

Re: Has anyone ever hear of a guitar by the name....

Ah, I see. I was wondering, since you mentioned something about a rosewood board earlier, and the one catalog I can find only shows maple.

In that event, I'd have to withdraw the offer until I could get more info on it. It may be a Warmoth built by an Akira fan, with a Korean Dano neck, or it could be an old junky 80s Cort plywood Star body, or even an old San Dimas Charvel/DiMarzio by Charvel body. It could be lead, or it could be gold. Body and neck markings in the pocket and on the heel might tell more, maybe not, and I'd rather not drop $400 on a hunch.

I know what you mean. It could be anything. I tried to call him Monday afternoon to offer $40 but he didn't answer. It has an original Floyd Rose on it however. The fellow had it given to him a few years back and it's been hanging in his window since.

Re: Has anyone ever hear of a guitar by the name....

Just googled it, ZEP-Ⅱ RSZ-110(R/M), it's a Japan exclusive budget line, think lower-end Edwards for Japan. I've seen this go for 20,500 - 27,600 yen used, that's about 170 - 230 USD.

Not sure of the originals, but Akira's are now made under the Killer logo, though I do think ESP is the actual maker.

And Killer-branded Akira originals (the red with the metal plates and Dano head) are *always* back-ordered.

Your customer may have a winner.

If I'm reading the catalog scan right, the original price was 11,000 Yen, roughly comparable to $1100 USD. Take off the neck and see what's under the heel.

I thought the headstock was an EVH reference/tribute:
