Having problems with 59 set

Re: Having problems with 59 set

I took to another tech, and I guess it just comes down to I just don't like the combo. He ask me someone I like to listen to clean I told him Santana, Chet Atkins, I liked hearing Gary Moore playing clean. Like I said I guess I just don't like the 59 combo. Now I am starting all over I guess. The best sounding guitar I ever had was a Yamaha SA2200 but that was a semi hollow guitar like a ES335. I had to let it go to pay my kids hospital bill years ago. Now what do I do now. I like to get into that ball park again.

I have a SA2200. If that's your benchmark then the 59's probably are a bit perplexing to you.

The bridge pup in the 2200 has quite a bit more output and has pretty good bite. I think a Custom or Custom 5 would be the closest SD to that pickup. If your LP is on the brighter side maybe even a CC.

The neck pickup of the SA2200 is moderate output and still has a pretty big high end. I might go with a PG. It cleans up the boomy bottom of a 59 and has good clarity

Re: Having problems with 59 set

I played a Real Les Paul last night, with Seth Lovers neck and bridge. I think it's what I am looking for, they really sounded sweet. I wish I could of heard it on my Blues Deluxe Reissue. We played it on his amp a JC 120, the guy was an awesome guitarist. He could make a turd sound good. What do you guys think about these pickups, I think I am sold on them.

Seth Lovers are excellent pickups.

However, unless there is a time constraint (are you within the Seymour Duncan trial period?), I would try to get the '59s to work with your setup mainly because it might work and it's completely free.

If you are within the trial period, or simply do not want to wait, then yes, the Seth Lovers may get you where you want to go. However, there are a lot of alnico 2 PAF variants, so you might want to take your time deciding to make the best out of your money.

Re: Having problems with 59 set

I have already order the Seth pickups, and I got a email back from DMZ they did not make the pickup for the Yamaha SA2200. I want thank everyone for the help, since I don't see as well anymore it is easier for me to have the pickups put in. I could not find anyone to replace the mags for me. I am either going to sell the 59s, are give them to the guy who ts going to change the pickups for me. He is very good and might take the pickups for the work. I am also changing all the pots and switch to switchcraft.

You didn't ask for the mag swap, I could've done the work for ya, p'up modding AND changing the harness. I do it all the time! ;)

I'm in Italy, so it could take some time to the p'ups to arrive here and to get to you after modded, assuming you're in the US, so it's up to you to decide.

HTH,
