you got some realy nice phrasing going on there! and very nice tone aswell

if i could critisize the clip, i would only say that at sometimes you "sat" on the wrong notes.
it sounds like you are playing a mode in a more conventional pattern on the neck.
let me explain myself better, like playing C major and "sitting" on the proper notes, while actually the sound you're supposed to get out is of G Mixolydian.
i hope that makes any sence
but again, this only realy stuck out on like 2 places. so again i say i realy enjoyed listening to it.

the scale that works best for this track is E Mixolydian from what i could tell.

(hehe)Well once again I know my scales and theory....I do not use them when I play, and I use tension notes on purpose, I like the unsafe sound and correct notes do not do it for me, never had, in fact several of my old teachers said to me, quit playing the scales if you want to go "out", go for lines, make sure to pull and release when needed
So no scales or modes when I play.....it is all what I hear I play that is my style
But thanks anyways eventhough it was not correct

I don't think anyone can say you're suppose to get out in "x" scale, unless your are playing a cover the wrong way. The choice of the scale is up to the player according to the backtack, and whether you choose to go minor pentatonic or minor or whatever other variations which I won't name just for the sake of sounding smart (any dumba$$ can find a scale site on the Net) is a matter of opinion, taste, style, etc. all of which have nothing to do with theory. On any given backtrack, you can do pretty much wathever you like, except not playing in the right scale at all, which probably not even mediocre players do.

I don't put down theory for the sake of it, unless theory prevents you from seeing a great player when you hear one, which you are Rid

Music is more about emotion than theory. Theoricians are good musicans, but they're also more often teachers than great performers.

Thanks Sly...hehe the whole point is that I know what to play, but I rather play something that makes it fun rather than playing something that is dull and correct, that is what I like.

Don't worry man... it was just my opinion . It's not in my personality to tell people what scale to play, and certainly not to Rid... diversity is what makes all our clips different.

You're an awesome player, and you probably know more theory than I ever will, so I guess you're entitled to be more critic... just be carefull not overdo it, it could sound a little conceited at times

Dont worry Diminished, your comments were completely valid from the way you play guitar. thats what the "tips" bit about this forum means to me, when other players tell you what they would "tip" you to do next time.. it gives you more ideas and can make you aware about certain things in your playing you didnt realise...

It is just my roots, I am into Beck, Carlton, Huff, and a whole lot of others old 70's fusion players among others, I like tension notes
