Head and Cabinet Suggestions

What should I get? I know everyone here has experience so I was wondering what brand YOU would choose in the situation. I have a $600-$800 budget and the two amps I'm stuck between are; Orange Crush Pro 120h and Randal RG or RX heads. I'm up for hearing suggestions too. I don't know about the cabinet yet either. I was thinking of getting matched sets but I'm not 100% on that. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I am looking for something that is versatile as well. Again any suggestions would be awesome!

You should tell a bit more.
What styles of music are you mostly playing?
Is it for bedroom alone time or group action? (knock it off guys, you know what I mean lol.)

Are you dead-set against used gear?

I play rock. If you want specific styles it's post hardcore, hardcore, metalcore, and punk. Mostly. It's for playing with others I am good with an amp for playing alone. I am currently using a crate when I'm playing in a group and I need something that is more versatile and just better for what I use it for.

Go used, for $800 you can get a pretty decent rig. In just a quick glance through Guitar Center's used gear page there are several good heads in the $300-400 range, a few peavey xxx and a JSX and some other good amps. In the same price range for cabs in saw plenty of Marshall 1960 cabs a Mode Four 280A, an Orange Jim Root 2×12 and a bunch of Avatars and some of the V30 loaded Line 6 Spider Valve 4×12s

Bad Cat Cougar 50h and a used 4x12 cab. Definitely a versatile head that can be as clean as you want and get as heavy as you'd ever need. Get the head and then test it out with various cabs to see what combination you like. That would be a setup you'd never outgrow.

The Laney Ironheart 60 watt is a suitable affordable amp. I used one a few weeks ago and its not bad for metalcore. I was depping for another guitarist but it was usable. He usually uses a Line 6 pod pro but I had a few issues with it on stage so ended up having to plug straight into the Laney (which served as a pre-amp initially) and running with that. Good saturation and drive. Didn't use the cleans, I would imagine the crunch would be ok.

Re: Head and Cabinet Suggestions

If you are lucky you can get two Laney AORs on this budget ... it has dark voiced mids and an immense EL34 growl, so with V1 mod or DS/OD pedal it can do any modern "core" thing ...
