Sorry I didn't quite catch the website again?

Gamera, now you're just being an idiot. There's no call for that!

Ya' know, we all poked a little fun in the beginning, but this got almost as bad as when everyone chased Lee from the Board(remember him??)

Very Very BAD..........another vote to lock it up/shut it down/delete WHATEVER.........

Chasing Lee away was fun, and he earned it over and over and over and over and over again. I don't think that is the case here. I think we just have someone who didn't have a full understanding of how the community works.

I'm not going to read all of the posts in this year old, 9 page thread, but keep it real, keep it respectful seems to be in order.

Hartley

Do you prefer to use a pick or your fingers? Or both depending on the song?
How about Carmine. What is his preference
I know most use a pick, but it seems too limiting to me.

Is the dog in your profile a full size poodle or ?

Thanks for sticking around ;)

Hello Carmine, (I noticed that you were viewing the thread)

Considering the holiday, What was your most memorable experience working with Bob Hope while touring Vietnam?

Did you volunteer, or where you drafted? Thanks for your service either way. :usa:

Re: Hello from Studio jazz rock guitarist Carmine D'Amico

I was 1A in the draft,so I tried out for the US Army swing band, and was accepted, and I enlisted .I was a commisoned officer-I did not have to go for basic training,as I was given the rank of second lieutenant.I remained in NAM,Guam for 4 years, and played for the troops(Loving every moment, with these exceptions:jumping out of choppers, getting fired on,REALLY scarry place) with Bob Hope,Suzanne Sommers,Dean Martin,Sammy Davis Jr.,and others. The fact that I came back from NAM alive, and never used a gun,but my guitar instead was my Greatest moment.Guns kill, guitars make music!!!!Happy JULY FOURTH my friend,

Chaos;
1. The poodle is indeed a Standard, all 65 pounds of her. Jasmine is the name (Jazz for short), she likes tennis balls and listening to me play guitar (go figure).

2. I often use a style of picking called "Travis" picking. You hold the pick normally, then use the next three fingers for finger picking. This gives you a more prominent bass sound.

Thanks Harley

After a quick search, I guess I practice “Travis picking’ myself (Or something similar) Except I use just my thumb for the baseline.
I can see how a pick would give you a ‘brighter’ attack, but I find that it is easier to use my next three fingers if they include my index. Maybe I need to develop and use my right pinky more often…

I’m not much for toy poodles, but standard poodles are impressive dogs. I have heard that they are also one of the smartest breeds around.

First of all that post was 6 months old.

Secondly, considering the tone of this entire thread, I make no apologies.

That is a cool story! Thanks for posting that!

I have a question if you don't mind: what would your advice be to someone wanting to get into the studio musician scene?

Re: Hello from Studio jazz rock guitarist Carmine D'Amico

Yeah, I held off last year when this started to see where it would go... I was surprised to see it revived, and this is the first posting I have made in this thread, despite my many visists, and my desire to dig in....

What brought it back, anyway?

/\Now THAT is a useful post. Make more like that, Carmine, and I'm sure you'll be welcomed into this little community. That story was personal, interesting, and exposed a little bit of the person behind the post.

Hartley, I wasn't aware that the Grammies were given that way, either. Thanks for the info.

Re: Hello from Studio jazz rock guitarist Carmine D'Amico

to RATHERDASHING'S question about getting into the studios as a pro guitarist.Tell me if you can do the following:1.Read any style of music placed on your music stand in the studio immediatelyi.e.RIGHT NOW(they don't let you take it home to pratice it) perfect the first time down,in perfect time-not dragging,or rushing?2.Make the music you are reading authentic to whatever genre the song is in?e.g. Can you play -for real-Rock,Progressive Rock,Funk,R&B,Urban Soul,Rap,Hip-Hop,Metal,Grunge,Alternative,Country music,Contemporary Country,Jazz,Jazz-Rock,Fusion,Classical guitar-fingerstyle,Latin music(bossa nova,bolero,samba,cha-cha,)Latino Rock,Waltze's(original Austrian to jazz waltz)Movie themes(anything goes from classical-STRAVINSKY,To avant garde symphony)?3.Do you play mandolin in the correct tuning?4.Do you play banjo-tenor,and five string -in the correct tuning?4.Do you believe that at 10AM for 8 to 12 hours that day ,you must record a movie,cd,without making more than 3 mistakes reading down the above mentioned styles? If you can do this-you are ready for the studios.

Re: Hello from Studio jazz rock guitarist Carmine D'Amico

For Sune.My best advice is: decide on what you ultimate GOAL is.Do you want to be a pro at X style,or Y style?2.Do you want to be a pro,or just enjoy playing the guitar?3.After making your decision, study with the best teacher in the style of choice,Warmest Regards,
