Hello Installed SH-6 distortion on the bridge of my S370

Re: Hello Installed SH-6 distortion on the bridge of my S370

Cool!

The Quarter Pound is a beast. Combining it with a split humbucker, even a hot one, is just going to make Quarter Pound quack, with the predominant character still being that of the Quarter Pound. In addition you'll get a pretty large volume drop in the notch positions.

Keeping the humbuckers in series will give you a much more diverse palate of sounds without abrupt transitions because you'll be blending the positions more evenly.

In the case of this flame thrower you have in the neck, I have a feeling it will be the the Quarter Pound that will be the one doing the taming. In the case of the Distortion in the bridge, there will probably be a more even blend.

Well when you describe it like that I can't wait to make these changes when I get the chance on Saturday. I'll be sure to follow up once I've repaired my sloppy work :yourock:

Thanks for the kind words, Kamanda~SD and de_dUKe!

I had a chance to fix my pickups last night. The SH-4 and Sh-6 Distortion sound........AMAZING!!!! This is exactly what I wanted out of my guitar.

I did notice however disconnecting the ground from the switch to stop the auto-split from 2,3,4 really lowers the output sound on setting 3. I probably have to adjust the high again on my Strat PU. Otherwise I can't wait to spend part of my day jamming tomorrow.

I attached photos of my repair. I did tape off the ground after the photo. Man these things rock!

That's really great man!!!

I'm curious about what you thought of the the sound of the middle and neck when the neck was split. It would probably have sounded better if it had been split to the screw coil. I was reluctant to mention it earlier. I thought you might also like being able to split the neck manually with a push-pull. If you want hum-canceling when split to the neck screw coil in position 4 you will have to flip the magnet in the neck pickup and swap its green and black wires (leaving the ground wire connected to ground, of course). You were splitting to the screw coil in position 5 before you did the rewire, BTW.

Removing the ground wire from the switch should not have made any difference to the tone of the QP in position 3.

It's funny mentioning rotating the neck pick up because I did change that. I rotated my neck and Strat PU so that when the guitar stands you read Seymour Duncan" right side up on all the pickup now. I only played with it for about 10 minutes after I fixed it last night and it was low because my wife was sleeping. Tomorrow I'll have plenty of time to crank it and play with it. I don't remember the sound for the neck being split. I was too excited that everything was working.

Ok so I'm assuming the QP just needs to be adjusted closer to the strings then. Position 3 is really quiet now and I had to crank up my amp more. It was almost at half the volume of position 1 and 5.

Awesome! I am happy this got all sorted out. I've seen so many different kinds of those straight switches, and they are always different.

Another funny thing is the Ibanez one-line detail for the switch connections was wrong too. The neck and bridge are backwards switch on my guitar and no I wasn't looking at my switch upside down lol.

Thank you all especially Gregory for helping me with my first pickup installation.

It can always be a surprise when you open up the guitar for the first time. Especially with non-standard switches.

Re: Hello Installed SH-6 distortion on the bridge of my S370

It might not be the 5-way you're used to seeing in Strats, but it's still very much a standard switch.
