Help a nOOb with multimeters

Re: Help a nOOb with multimeters

Well I'll just take it to him then.

As for testing the pots with the probes, I used the 200K setting and I got a sweep from 0.00 to 13.8. Thats not right is it? This was on the volume that is an audio taper 500K

If it was off the circuit it's definetely not right. If it's connected to the circuit the value can vary as the meter measures the overall resistance of the circuit in that point.

Re: Help a nOOb with multimeters

I just had the red to the outside and the black int he middle and thats what it did. It swept and everything fine, but I though it was supposed to measure around 500 at full resistance.

Re: Help a nOOb with multimeters

Yes 500K should be the full resistance, if it's not it's faulty.. I assume the pot is out of the circuit (that's how it should be measured ;)).

Re: Help a nOOb with multimeters

Well if you mean out of circuit as in nothing connected to it, then no haha
everything was still all wired up; I just stuck the probes to the lugs and measured as is in the guitar. My ignorance shines through very well in this subject haha

No problem man. That's why these forums are.

I wish I could help more in that.

Re: Help a nOOb with multimeters

13.8 is your pickup resitance in that case, if the switch as on the neck position then it was your neck pickup resistance.
