If you're thinking of the HRDx the Hot Rod Deville 212 is a little more $ but is cleaner and louder and I think it sounds a lot more refined. Go used and you're golden.

DRRIs start to break up around 4 with humbuckers and between 5 and 6 with vintage single coils. I owned one and the breakup is mellow and sweet but depending on how loud you need to be it may annoy you. the DRRI recommendation should come with a "try before you buy" warning but they sure are sweet! Amazing reverb and trem and it can be used at home without blowing the doors off.

I usually get the vol on the DRRI past where I need it then roll back my guitars vol knob which gives me the vol but cleaner than it would be. Also I now have a boost if I need it. Many of my friend love the DRRI and run any one of the digital all in one pedal boards in front.

Yeah a hot rod or if you get lucky then a blues deluxe will fit the bill.
if you want to make it sound nice enough to rival the boutique stuff, you can upgrade the fender speaker at some stage down the track.

I got a used Hot Rod Deville 4x10 for $350 used. It has a great clean channel, and at 60w it gets pretty loud before it breaks up.

I've never been a huge fan of its drive channel, but lately I've found a cool trick. I go to the lower gain channel with just a touch of drive, then use my tube screamer clone (Visual sound route 808) at about half drive. Just has a little more oomph than when I use it with the clean, but the one pedal gives me four great sounds (clean channel no drive, drive channel without pedal, clean channel with pedal, and drive with pedal).

The reverb on the HR's is pretty good, too. Nice fender-y richness.

Have you considered the Egnater Rebels? I have a Rebel 30 that has great "warm" cleans. Lots of versatility. Loud as heck for a 30 watter. Takes any pedal you want to throw at it. And a built-in choice of EL-84 or 6V6 or any combination of the two. Good dist channel as well.

+1 for the Fender Hot Rod DeVille - specifically, the 410. (This is my main amp.) Feed it top quality 6L6s.

+1 for leaving it on the More Drive channel and just workin' the guitar's volume control(s).

Look for a used Mesa Boogie Blue Angel. Clean for days, and either 6v6 or EL84 or both at the same time. No master volume, 5 knobs. And the most glorious reverb I have ever heard.

I know somebody who swears by a Fender PR246 HR Deluxe and a raft of pedals.

Since you have no requirement for the overdriven channels, consider the Fender Blues Deluxe.

+1 on the Blues Deluxe over the HR. I own one and I think it has a slightly better clean channel, and a slightly better dirty channel. Takes pedals well.

The one caveat, is that the stock speaker is pretty shrill (same prob. In the HR as well). But just swap out with something elss. I went the WGS route, pretty pleased.

Check out the Port City Pearl. You won't want to look at anything else after that.

+1 on the Pearl. Heard it for the first time today as the test amp for a Empress Phaser pedal demo, and the quality of its clean channel definitely caught my attention. I have no idea what they cost tho, if they are within your budget.
