I chose the reverse warhead...

I think a reverse batwing would look pretty cool too...

I love the look of that sort of headstock on my Fret King...

Re: Help Me Choose A Headstock Shape For My Purple Iceman Assembly

I would probably go with a pointy staggered 3 x 3 layout.

I hate banana and Jackson headstocks, so those are out for me. They look WAY dated on a custom build.

Honestly, I think custom builds should echo the original design or you're not doing it right. Even if you don't like Ibanez headstocks, it's the right one. At IS an Ibanez Iceman, not a Jackson, Kramer, or whatever the Warhead comes on.

If it were mine, I'd just choose between normal or reverse Ibanez, whether it's a 3/3 or 6 in line.

Alrighty. It's getting down to the nitty gritty with both of my Iceman assemblies. It's going to be awhile before I can shoot them with nitro because of the cold weather, but i might as well go ahead and get everything to get them ready to go.

I already know what I'm going to do with the purple one. It's going to have gold hardware and a set of Seymour Duncan Livewires in it. The Livewires arrived today.:)

It's going to have a maple neck with a rosewood fretboard and mother of pearl dot inlays. However, I'm still not sure on what shape headstock I'm going to go with. I do however know that it and the blue one will both have reverse headstocks, and I will be covering and staining a veneer on the headstocks to match the body.

So, what do you think? It would be really cool if one of you awesome dudes could do a little photoshop work for me.;) I sure would appreciate it!!

Anyways, I'm thinking the reverse Explorer shape first and foremost.

Second, I like the Warhead. I was thinking about taking it and maybe taking a dremel or something to it and carving a bit out of it to emphasize it's dick head to match the one on the Iceman body...lol

Third, and last for me personally would be the reverse Jackson style headstock. The only reason for that pretty much is just because it's a little too pointy for me, but it doesn't bother me that bad.

So, what is your opinion/vote? Thanks in advance!!:)

Yeah, I'm pretty set on the reverse headstock for some reason.

I like the way the low strings sound with a reverse headstock. Used to play nothing but Firebirds. That extra string length seems to make the low E and A sound more like a piano. I put full size paf's in my '63 Firebird (yep...real paf's and a real '63 Firebird) and it lost a little of that piano quality but not all of it. I'll vote for the reverse headstock, Jolly.

You doin' the tilt back on it? It just ain't gonna look right with a flat headstock with string trees on it, in my opinion.

Maybe consider this headstock too:

Jolly, It looks like a bad @$$ guitar when it is done.

Schecter Avenger head stock. I think it would look real cool

Re: Help Me Choose A Headstock Shape For My Purple Iceman Assembly

From the first moment i saw this thread, I thought 'Firebird headstock', but was reluctant to say so. I still feel the same now. But that's my taste, and it's not my guitar.

With it's bevelled edges, it would be the perfect platform for a headstock veneer.

Originally that's what type of headstock I planned to be on the neck. I called Warmoth and they make them, but it's like $140 extra or something like that for the Firebird headstock. I can understand them costing that much more because of all the extra work that goes into making that headstock, but it's just not worth it to me.

Firebird would look cool, but Im having visions of the Jackson firebird Robbin Crosby used to play that had the upside down pointy on it.... kills em all....

The Jackson looks good on the Iceman. This is a Warmoth that someone put together.
