I want the analog delay sound. Badly. I love that lo-fi thing, it's such a rich texture.
The clean digital delay sound doesn't do much for me.
With that in mind, I have two possibilities:
1) Buy a Digitech Digidelay. I know, I just said analog, but it's got a tape delay emulation which I'm not sure how good it is because I didn't try it for long, plus a modulated delay.
The regular digital delay which I can actually control (unlike my Cube 60's which has almost no parameters) may come handy, and it also has a 4 second looper that I won't find myself using too often but who knows. Versatile, and it's also cheaper than my #2 choice. But it's digital. And I'm not sure they're that reliable to being with. But then my amp is digital and I'm happy with it's sound, so it would be no heresy for me. It's an ugly pedal, too.
Anyway, here's #2:
2) Buy a EHX Memory Toy. A much simpler, analog delay with shorter repeat time, but less knobs, a simpler circuit, and a really great sound. It's a fair bit more expensive, and I'd lose the versatility from the Digitech. But I'd have something very nice in my growing pedal board, plus I understand EHX pedals are as reliable as an iron bench. It's also tiny and looks cool.
I've tried both but not for long enough, so here's my questions:
Is the Digitech (or most Digitech pedals) reliable?
A friend of mine's had hell with a Looper pedal they have, Jam Man or something. That puts me down a bit but it could be down to bad luck.
Is the tape delay on the Digitech actually good or it's fake sounding?
Is the EHX really worth the extra cash in your opinion?
Feel free to add your ideas and thoughts, or suggestions. Maybe another pedal I'm forgetting about?
Thanks!
