Help me identify this Epiphone Les Paul!

Hi guys,

I’m on the look for a Les Paul and I came across this beauty through the local classifieds.

The description says:
“I offer an Epiphone Les Paul Standard Slash/Joe Perry/November Rain colour without scratches included Bag. Bought new on 01.May.17, setup by the expert with 0.10 strings. Price 480CHF” (440EUR / 494USD)

The price seems steep, because I could order an Epi LP Standard online for 350CHF, an Epi LP Plustop Pro for 450CHF, an Epi LP Tribute Plus for 570CHF or a GIBSON LP Tribute for 762CHF.
However, this particular LP looks like none of the above. The Standard has a plain top and the Plustop and Tribute have a flame top. This one has the grain maple top like a Gibson LP Classic or Tribute.

Which model/year is it? Is it a good deal?

I’d appreciate your comments and knowledge on this!

Cheers,
Walter

Well, thats a plaintop. So it can still be the standard based on that particular spec.

Ok, but standar with translucent paint? The other standards have solid colors. May it's bought new but it's an older model...

Hi guys,
I got some more pics.

From the serial number I know it has been made in Indonesia in 2009, so it is impossible tht it was new in May this year. Anyway, how much would you pay for it?

I cannot seem to upload the images, but here are some links.

Op
I would hold out for the Tribute model
with the Gibson electronics and hardware
played one in store and the 57s were awesome

comes with locking tuners and a case new

and their midnight blue version looks incredible by the way

Thanks for the tip! I'll do that, also since I'm in Europe, I'll see if thomann.de has any B-stock Epis. The are "almost new" and come with a warranty and 30 -day return money back.

Theres no such thing as "identifying" non-Japanese/American epis... the rest aint worth the effort.

Price is ludicrous, you can get a professional Japanese or American axe for that much dough.

Meanwhile, this is just junk

PS would pay no more than $75 - 100

Yeah, they are VERY nice! I have a black one and love it..

waltschwarzkopf, Id pass on this one unless the look really really moves you. It may be fine guitar, BUT... The seller doesnt appear to be being truthful. Its obviously much older than he said, due to the scratches on the headstock, looks like one on the back of the headstock and the front looks dull like its been used. could be the photo. he most likely didnt buy it as a leftover stock item. Plus, if he did, why is he selling in just a month?? Food for thought.

Nice! Very straightforward, you're right, I'll look elsewhere or buy a new Epi for less.

I think the insinuation was that all Chinese Epi's are junk. I don't own a single Epiphone, but I think there are a large number of people who would disagree with the junk assessment. That said, I wouldn't pay 500 bucks for that Epi either. I actually like plaintops, and like the look of that Epi. But, I wouldn't get raped for it. It's not like the Chinese made Epi's hold their value like a Gibson does.

Re: Help me identify this Epiphone Les Paul!

Nothing to identify; It's an Epiphone Les Paul Standard with a plain top.

Re: Help me identify this Epiphone Les Paul!

It's not like the Chinese made Epi's hold their value like a Gibson does.

And it's not like they pick up vintage appeal after eight years.

I wonder if a Chinese made Epiphone will ever gain vintage appeal.
Maybe that Epi Slash AFD performance pack will sell for 10X the original price come 2035 ...

Re: Help me identify this Epiphone Les Paul!

The insinuation is that this is a guitar mainly made to *LOOK* PRETTY.

But a $500 guitar should PLAY awesome and SOUND pretty... looks are secondary, because $500 can instead get you a somewhat rougher-looking PROFESSIONAL axe, instead of a pretty but basic stocking stuffer

A gouged-up ESP Japan (very consistent quality) or Fender American Std (pretty stable) or old good-era Gibson LP Studio (less consistent, alas) can be found for that money if you look hard enough.

And if you have friends who know their obscure old gear willing to guide you and some time... you can get 2-5 looovely japanese axes depending on your area.

PS avoid indonesia, they use soft weird woods. For some reason OKish for bass, but quite bad for guitar
