Help me pick out a new guitar

Hey guys, so, I'm I'm the market to look at getting a new guitar. I've got an American Standard at home, an esp les paul style, and a partscaster. I'm really looking for something along the lines of a super strat, but I don't really like messing with the Floyd. Here's a couple things I'd really like to have
25.5 scale
Hh setup
Comes stock with decent pups
Is almost any color that isn't black.

I've noticed some charvel guitars, but I can't find any hh models with a hard tail, only the Floyd. So I was wondering if you guys had any recommendations for something to go look at and try out. Any help would be appreciated!

Also, forgot to mention, I'd like to keep it under a grand. Or right at a grand if I could snag it on sale for less

Re: Help me pick out a new guitar

I would think that Schecter, LTD, Ibanez, and Jackson would have something up your alley.

Re: Help me pick out a new guitar

LTD has some awesome stuff under a grand that would suit your specs.

Re: Help me pick out a new guitar

If you can get past flat black and EMGs, check out the Charvel Desolation DX-1

Every one of these I've played in stores has been solid for the price, and that was when they were $650, this ones on sale in flat black for $400 at the moment. It has EMGs, a compound radius, neck through constuction.

right at the top of your range is the Ibanez RG652fx.

And if you are fine with open box guitars, there is a cobalt blue RG652FX for $792 here http://www.musiciansfriend.com/guit...tige-rg-series-electric-guitar?condition=used

Comes with dimarzios(TZ/AN), 5 piece neck and its made in Japan. I'm a little biased towards Ibanez guitars, but I think this is a fantastic guitar for the money

Re: Help me pick out a new guitar

How about this? Hardtail Charvel, stacked coil neck PU out, SD Li'l '59 in? Well within budget.

Re: Help me pick out a new guitar

Thanks for all the options guys! I've saved every link you've posted and I'm going to try a lot of them out at a few music stores today. I haven't played a whole lot of Ibanez, so I may find I love or hate them, and I'll check out a lot of esp or schecter guitars. My local places font stock charvel, but could I get past my Floyd issues by simply getting a tremol-no?

Re: Help me pick out a new guitar

If you replace the neck pickup with something hotter for example li'l '59 like Funkfingers suggested?
I'm really thinking about it. I love the hh look, but I hate dealing with the Floyd. Plus, I think the hardtail has locking tuners, and the bridge pup isn't direct mount so it'll be easier to swap. What's the stk-6 like, or whatever the neck pickup is stock?

Well, it depends on which particular Charvel you get.

If you go for the newer MIM SoCal (with the pickguard), the Tremol-No will help significantly since it's a floating Floyd.

However, for some reason, the Super Stock SoCal is non recessed, like the older MIJ SoCal. The bridge sits on the body, so if you never screw the bar on it's like you have a double locking hardtail with fine tuners.

Then there's the older version of the SoCal that has the same setup.

Re: Help me pick out a new guitar

I have periodically GASsed for the hardtail Charvel design illustrated above. The main reason why I have not bought one is the clearance price, shop soiled, Yamaha Pacifica 311H that I picked up last week then modified. (Gibson P90 and 500T pickups. American control parts. Series/parallel switch for the HB.)

What if I'm looking at something like this?

Could I just get a tremol-no and have it function just like a hard tail?

In my opinion... yes. You could do that or block it. I'm not a tremolo guy, so I blocked the Floyd in the guitar you see in my avatar. Now it's easier to keep in tune, no messing around at string changes, and it doesn't sound funny if I rest my hand on the bridge for mutes.

If I could get something with a Floyd, because I like the rest of the specs, and just use the tremol-no, I would have a lot more options. I really love the way the guitar I just posted a link too looks, and the specs are all right up my alley, except for the Floyd. But if a tremol-no will make changing strings act like changing a hard tail, and tuning easy, I'm in!

Do it... more options are ALWAYS a good thing, and you'll forget that tremolo is even there! :bigthumb:

Pretty much. There's also other trem stops that will keep the bar from pulling up but still give you the ability to divebomb if you want to screw the bar on. If you don't screw the bar onto the trem then it just sits there and you can tighten up the springs to hold things still.

I don't know why the SoCal and San Dimas went floating when Fender moved production from Japan to Mexico. The guitars are fantastic from Mexico. I just don't like the floating trem.

Here's a few of the older style ones which wouldn't require a Tremol-No or blocking of any sort for your needs. Not sure what your budget is, so I'm throwing a couple pricier guitars in from what I found.
