HELP!!! Question about a Bigsby tremolo...

Hi!

My father has the intention of building a new guitar. He would like to fit a Bigsby tremolo on it but we don't particulary know why some have a tension bar (B7 model) and some other doesn't (B3 model).

Can anybody tell what is the tension bar for?

The tension bar only decreases the bridge break-over angle. The tension bar is on the shorter models primarily, if memory serves.

Bigsby's are great tailpieces, with a little love and care....and of course a proper set up, they will stay in tune fabulously.

I know that all the 335 based models with bigsbys have the tension bar. I might also have something to do with whether or not you use a TOM, or the bigsgy compensated bridge. How did I come up with that? I pulled it out of my ARSE!! :laugh2: No really though the Gretches generally do NOT have the bar but they also use the bigsby bridge. That's the only correlation I could come up with.
