Help: Replaced a (bridge) JB with a Custom

Re: Help: Replaced a (bridge) JB with a Custom

It is possible it may be bad. Do you have a ohm meter to check it? Also, if you dont, get one that also checks continuity. If you get one that checks continuity, it is easy to find electrical gremlins. A great and vital investment if you do your own electronic stuff on guitars. They can be had for about $20-$30 at radio shack.

Can you explain how to do some basic troubleshooting with one of these meters? I might get one.

Guys,

PROBLEM SOLVED!

I contacted Seymour Duncan's support, and the guy there, Alex Semple, had me simply switch the black and red leads. WORKS PERFECT! So...it WAS wired wrong at the factory!

Anyway, both pups sound killer, and as one guy said in a prior message, I'm in the process of pulling my **** out of the dirt! :)

Thanks everyone!

Glad you got it sorted out. The Custom rocks!

That'll be theodie. It's a technical term. :D

Re: Help: Replaced a (bridge) JB with a Custom

here are some of the reviews from M.'s FRiend on the Custom Custom. I was about to get one till i read that one guys review about how all he could get was the "Money for nothing" sound. Yea, and i think one of the complaints was that it was a bit 'Thin" sounding....... <p> I have an Ibanez RX240 H-S-S guitar that I originally installed a JB bridge in. The JB is an excellent bridge pickup (I have one in my ESP and it RULES) but it was too bright. After a lot of research, I found out that my guitar is maple, hence why the pickup was way too bright. So I slapped this pickup (the trembucker version) into my guitar. WOW! This pickup sounds like a perfect reproduction of the guitars used on heavy-yet-vintage songs like Day Tripper by the Beatles, and can cover CCR and other hard rock songs great! I love how it sounds: like a vintage pickup with increased output. It's an excellent pickup, and I highly recommend it for taming a bright guitar.

Jul 5, 2006 - I got this almost 2 years ago. It did everything I wanted it to. The combination of my amp and guitar was giving me a lot of unpleasant squeaks so I decided to drop in a humbucker to cancel some of that out. It did just that. I was looking for a little thicker tone also but didn't get so much of that. This pickup is absolutely silent when not playing. The only thing I don't like is how bitey the sound is. It is very crisp and cuts through live very well but sometimes I wish I could tone it down a bit.

May 3, 2006 - Very, very midrangey pickup. In my Ibanez SZ, it sounded like being stuck in a tubescreamer. Not enough highs for me. Definately no lows. I was disappointed. Distortion was "flubby" for lack of a better word, and compressed. Positive note: it sounds great in a mix, very warm and present. But it's not all that fun to play, unless you really like that "Money for Nothin'" sound-.

Oct 3, 2005 - I put this humbucker in my standard Strat a couple of weeks ago. It was the best thing I've ever done to a guitar's sound. It screams with distortion and works very well to preserve and compliment the Stratocaster's "bright" sound. If you have a Strat, you're missing out if you don't have one of these in it. Mine's a cool black color, too.

Aug 8, 2005 - I've been searching for a bridge humbucker for my american strat and this is the best one I've found so far. It's a little too hot and over powers my Texas Specials, but I use it mostly for recording so I don't mind. Plenty of mids to thicken up the tone of a strat. If you're looking to make your strat into a real thick distortion guitar this is your pickup.

MF reviews are hardly anything I would even consider in my decision process. Right on par with the brilliant diatribes on Harmony central
