HI,
I own an 83 Fender Elite, and I have gotten a bug to start experimenting with different pickups.
Of course, I couldn't have a normal guitar to work with. I have to have some goofy guitar nobody ever thinks of when they are writing wiring diagrams for their pickups.
The guitar has the TBX and MDX controls.. but the TBX control mostly just seems like a "noise increase" control.
If I have the tbx pot at 4 or so the noise is loud, and if I have it anywhere else the noise is louder. The tbx noise control actually goes to 11.
SO.. I bought a little 59 to stick in the bridge position. I managed to stick it in there and it's actually more noisy than the single coils, something doesnt seem quite right.
Now my questions.. Im new to thise guitar electronics thing so forgive me if they are stupid.
according to schematics i found on the 'net, the volume pot on the elite is 50k audio taper.. apparently they used to 50k pot becuase of the preamp in the guitar?
Is that 50k pot going to be an issue with something like a little 59? I think I read the little 59 wants something like a 250k or a 500k pot.
Should I replace the volume pot with a 250k or is that going to wreak havok when coupled with the guitars preamp?
the output of the '59 is quite a bit more "hot" than the stock pickups. Maybe the only real fix for that will be to put some better SD single coils in there in place of the stock pickups?
Also, there is a dummy coil in the elite..I think it is supposed to somehow 'emulate" a humbucker when used with the single coils to help with noise issues..
But could the dummy coil and the "real" humbucker cause problems when they are in the same guitar? do "three" coils undo the hubuckedness of it all?
Im also game for any ideas as to how to wire the 59 into the bridge position most effectively.
All the ideas I have found on the net are somewhat complicated by the fact that I have the 3 push-button pickup selectors as opposed to the typical 5-way-switch.
sorry for the long first post.
thanks in advance for any assistance
