Okay so here are the pics from my wah modding that I promised in B_Bents Monwah thread.

Thanks whoever it was that started the "Modded my CryBaby" thread here last week or so, that was what inspired me to bring the wah out of the closet again. And to Andreas Möller (stinkfoot) for his Crybaby mod page.

My wah had been sitting in the closet for a half year because I didn't really enjoy it too much. After these mods it doesn't suck tone, it has apart from the totally amazing wah-side a volume pedal side as well. Much more versatile and that vocal quality that the wah now pronounces... yummie! :D

If you have a crybaby lying around it the closet... spend those extra 20-40$ on some parts (actually it's the red fasel that costed something, other parts very just a few bucks each) and you'll have an astonishing Wah pedal.

One negative thing though... it's a major PITA PITA to drill through a wah chassis, damn it's thick!

I was going to make some soundclips for you but I have some problem with my recording setup so unfortunaly no clips for now  But enjoy the pics!

Nice job on the wah!

Here's a Guv'nor pedal I built and made the circuit board for...One of quite a few home made pedals I wanted to share with you!

Ah! So a big thanks to you then SpHj :D

Thanks John! And that's a really neat Guv'nor Clone :)

This was my first pedal mod, it was a good thing to start on, wah's a so simple. And it made a tremendous lift for the tone of the wah as well :smokin:

Next up is a Fuzz Face clone, which I will make from scratch. We'll see how that works out ;) You haven't happened to build a Fuzz Face yourself John? I could use a little help on the bias trimpot placement, check out this thread https://forum.seymourduncan.com/showthread.php?t=101105 if you think you can help me out :)

John and eresseraca,

Very nice pics! Very clear.....of course I have very little idea what I'm looking at. But, that's my lack of knowledge:bowdown:

Damn dude thats one HUGE ASS switch! I used one of those in my marshall plexi bro! Haha cool though!

Did you try replacing the transistors in the wah? BC108's are the vintage correct ones I believe, I currently am using 2N5088's for a bit more modern sound, planning on getting some 2N5089's to see if they'll lower the noise a bit, since I play with the wah toe down or ****ed slightly for a lot of lead lines, and I get a bit of extra noise that way.

What value resistor did you settle on for the midrange resistor? IIRC mine is at 2.7k or so.

And if you think the Red Fasel sounds good, try a Fulltone or Banzai Halo, or Area51 inductor.

Hi Joe.....Actually they're BC109Bs or you can use the Cs for more gain...The Fulltone inductors aren't sold anymore and the ones you will find will run ya about $50 or more....The Aerial FX is a good inductor....I need to try the Area 51 inductor....Banzai hasn't been making inductors and that's the reason I've tryed 2 inductors from the guy on E Bay...Just did Bludave's wah with another one and I Like the way his wah came out with it in there....

To my ears 1.8k to 2.2k is the sweet spot range for the midrange resistor value and alot of times I'll use a trim pot there..

Re: Hendrix Crybaby modded! (PICS)

doh :smack: I knew I had the BC10x part right at least :)

I want to try the area 51 inductor, I might order one right now. I dont want to part with my fulltone because of, well, the reasons you mentioned above. They are impossible to get nowadays, so I might hang onto mine just for that.

Have you ever added a buffer to a wah? I'm thinking I might add a simple opamp voltage follower so I can use it before a Fuzz face. It works fine before my Dr. Boogie though, so I might just leave it alone. I've got enough projects on hand right now :smack:

I have added buffers for the guys that want to use their wah with a fuzz pedal....I've only used the FoxRox buffer, but it works really well...I've also seen some buffers on Fuzz Central that can be built,as these buffers are pretty pricey!

Here's the link!

Here's the Fuzz Central Buffer that can be easily made instead! Scroll to the bottom
