Fierce Shark

Guest
This is from what I can tell a 2000-2001 Andreas Shark. The Andreas shark was a Swedish collaboration between Andreas Pilcher and the Thomastik String Company. None of the original builders or partners have ever answered any of my emails and there is very little on line, what I have learned I have learned there.

There were five variations (colors) of this guitar, four had a innovative rubber type coating on a maple base that did not go over well from what I can tell. They were appropriately named for their color. I believe they had a Blue Shark, a Red, Grey and possibly Black Shark.

The fifth in the line was the one I bought. It's Western Larchwood body burned to create relief in the grain and was clear coated. The "Fierce" shark as it's called has the typical (for the shark guitar and bass) Aluminum fretboard and frets, a custom milled aluminum headstock, Schaller Machines and Roller bridge, Pearly Gates pickups, and originally came with custom wound strings by the Thomastik String company who were partners in the project with Andreas Pilcher. They also came with a custom case by Koppi of Germany and a specially engineered, lighted stand to hold the shape of the guitar. My Fierce also came with the more rare Aluminum inlay in the body surrounding the pickups and bridge. I do not have the stand or the original strings.

My guitar is signed inside with number 200? in the line.View attachment 39982

I will answer questions as they come but I really don't play very well so I can't speak too much to the sound. Folks who play it though, love it, love the sustain and the sound of the SD's..:) Enjoy.

That is damn Cool! Western Larch is a Conifer that looses it's needles in the winter. It is also called Tamarack. I don't have any experience with it other than carrying out quarters Elk through stands of it. Yum

Re: Here is my entry for the Seymour Duncan Pickups beauty contest:)

Definitely looks like really fine workmanship on that guitar.

Re: Here is my entry for the Seymour Duncan Pickups beauty contest:)

looks like it'd be very comfortable to play on
it's interesting, no doubt about that

Thanks for the compliments, I almost wish I had built it myself. As to "comfort", it is very comfortable. If you look at the pictures below you will see that the 8 pound guitar is shaped to wrap around the waist and for a small guy like myself, it's nice to have the room for my forearm. Also it should be noted that this guitar was specifically designed to be played sitting down as you can see by the shape and the point where the jack is set to let the cable drop naturally between the legs without hitting anything and your arms stay where they should be compared to trying to sit down say, with my strat. The whole guitar is designed for comfort, it is a pleasure to play and fits almost anywhere.

Thanks again, Fierce.

What happened, why did they stop making them? That looks wild!

edit: is this you playing your axe?

I never did figure out why but I just don't think the rubberized coating some of them had mad a bad impression. Andreas, who the signature is on the thing moved along to work with Infeld from what I can figure out then disappeared into some sound and amp company... I find it somewhat interesting that this player has his head cut off too... Like I said, insured, sure, but replaceable, not in my lifetime I would guess.. no that is not me. I don't play that well. It's kind of sad really that I can barely get through the chords of an Arlo Guthrie tune, and I love to sing but only for me, in my office with nobody home. I play through a little Fender Superchamp amp... Usually play clean.

F-U-C-K yeah....as soon as I saw your user name I knew exactly what you were going to post. Those Andreas Sharks, along with the James Trussarts I've played (or the one I've owned) are the coolest guitars ever IMHO. Should you ever decide to sell it, I call dibs. I used to have a nice boutique guitar shop not more than 30 minutes away from me that had those and I've played the different varieties (the red rubber bodied one with the all maple neck and red stripe was pretty killer, it had a trem and an H-S-S setup IIRC). There was a blue rubber one that sounded great with two humbuckers (and the humbuckers were splittable). I've played (2) different Fierce Sharks and I love the aluminum fretboards; if I could have gotten one for a good price it would have been mine.

The bodies are ridiculously comfortable and I seem to remember those necks having a pretty flat radius. I'm envious - mostly because I'm probably one of the few people that's actually had the privilege of trying out these things before they went out of business. I saw one on Ed Roman's site a while back that was actually orange rubber and I've lusted after that thing for about as long as I can remember. The only downside to the rubber coating that I can remember is that they weren't the most resonant pieces out there, but they did sound good plugged in and the finish was so bizarre and so cool that you just had to smile once you've had one in your lap. I was blown away. The only thing that's got to go though is that skull - I know that isn't original ;) Ugh, that body shape kills me every time though - that's probably my favorite body style ever.

Re: Here is my entry for the Seymour Duncan Pickups beauty contest:)

Hey Guys!
I'm new here - and the reason for my registration is quite simple:
I only wanted to correct some things - and provide you with some informations:

First: Andreas Guitars have been built in AUSTRIA (never confuse it with Australia) - exactly in a small village called Grosskirchheim in Carinthia

The full Name of the Mastermind and Luthier behind this Guitars is "Andreas Pichler".

His FB-Account is
https://www.facebook.com/andreas.pichler.7773?fref=pb
and i am quite sure, that he will be happy, if you write him a short note, how much you like his work!

Although, we have grown up together and therfore i know him personally, i didn't see him for a long while. Looks like, he is in Brasil these days - and before that, after closing "Andreas Guitars", he lived a few years in L.A.
The only person, who knows exactly, why "Andreas Guitars" has been closed, is Andreas himself - anything else is speculation.

Hope, this few Infos helped you a little...

Last surprise for you: In order to his wide range of Ideas, one of his actual projects is the following
http://www.andreasthemask.com/

so, have fun with your really seldom Guitar,
wish you all the Best

U.
