I agree with 1 3/5ths of your points. I don't like the look of Strats, nor the sound of positions 3,4 and 5 on a traditional Strat selector switch, but the neck and neck-middle combo....

We keep all of ours on one street downtown, because it's the one street all the old white tourists go to and that's what they like to listen to.

The talk gets tiring after a while, or maybe that's just me. This particular topic is like a merry-go-round, with the painted horsies and the occasional duck. Somebody made a ridiculous quote in one of these threads recently that you can't really call yourself a guitarist unless you own at least one _____ (name model of guitar you prefer here.) The ridiculous thing is, you can put any of the major name models in that spot, and the suggestion is equally ludicrous.
Doing this guitar playing thing for a living, I can honestly say that all that matters is the sound we make playing a guitar. Which guitar? Whichever guitar you're playing. I've also learnt that knowing about guitar is not the same as playing guitar. I've known plenty of guys who had all of the knowledge you would ever need, but couldn't really play to save themselves. These days, I reserve my opinion of a player until I actually hear them play. Ironically, some of the strongest opinions come from the least talented players, when you would think the opposite would be the case.
Such is the nature of the intrawebs as a reflection of life itself. I've never heard blueman335 play, so I have no idea if his opinion can be taken seriously, or completely ignored. His bias is annoying at first, and then it gets funnier as it becomes apparent how ridiculous it is. However, we tolerate all opinions because that's all they are in the end. It will be our guitar playing and the music that we make that represents us, rather than the clacking sound of our computer keyboards.

I guess that's like your version of how all the obese American tourists come here and flood into the three bars that actually play traditional Irish music.

I was just adding to the ******ry, but nope, no strat. I do have a LTD M-302 super strat type thing, and I'm probably gonna try to sell it. It's just not me, too fancy, and it's real nice, I don't like worrying about beating stuff up.

Actually, it's a lot like that. Both are driven by what people from elsewhere THINK the place should be, based on a poor understanding of what it once was and the ridiculous assumption that it can't possibly have changed in the interim.
And we're happy to exploit their misplaced and silly expectations for profit, of course.

Diversity is a wonderful thing.. I embrace it.. I look at guitars like women.. I enjoy all shapes & sizes.. but that's just my preference .. I don't expect that to be true for everyone..
I used to use humbucker style guitars with high gain amps almost exclusively.. now as the years go by, I find myself using single coils with much less distortion.. but I still like to go back a crank up the grease every now and again.. but I'm enjoying exploring all the possibilites..
There is no right and wrong.. only music.. we did a cover of "Day of the Eagle" by Trower the other night, and I was using my Flying V into my Twin.. not one person criticized me for not picking up my Strat.. the vibe musta been right cause people went nuts.. just play & enjoy..

Glad to oblige. Hey Diego baby, I know you're sincere. I guess I'm an enimga of sorts. If you are one of those who want to get crunchy British blues tones, especially with Gibson-design guitars, I've probably helped you at some point. I share what I've learned. If you're defensive and overreact when people question you, I may have had a laugh at your expense. Yes, I'm controversial and opinionated, but much more open-minded than some think.
I've thought thru what I like and what I believe, and don't care who agrees or disagrees with me. I'm not on this planet to please them. Throughout my life, many of my close friends have had radically different views on things than me, but that doesn't interfere with our friendships. I have a lot more respect for people who disagree with me, who have put some thought into it and are secure in their views. They're never threatened by my opinions or questions, nor I by theirs. It's always respectful. Why shouldn't it be?
While on the subject I'd like to say: My apologies to the forum for the occasional tantrums a couple members have directed at me. This forum is 99% opinions and they're usually all over the spectrum. So. What, we can only post here if we agree with certain members? We're adults, we can agree to disagree respectfully. Who's a genius that's never wrong? Raise your hand. This is about gear and music, opinions of gear and music. Stick to that and leave out the personal attacks. If you're rude to people because they don't see things the way you do, you're offering that instead of anything meaningful. Yeah, good plan; the strategy of humiliation really wins people over, and you impress others with your short temper. :eyecrazy: Look, if you're secure in your views and beliefs, you don't care what other people say. It doesn't matter. It doesn't effect your life in the least. If you're not, you overreact and your part of the conversation degenerates into personal insults. And who looks stupid? It's always the hot head, the guy losing his cool. I guess all of us know a few people who think this is the way to handle things, and the forum has it's share. I really believe that if we were all in a room together we'd get along great. But put a keyboard in everyone's hands, and a few guys get malicious. I don't know why they have a personality change. Is it the impersonality of being online? What I do know is that Seymour didn't go to the trouble of creating these forums so that a few people could lash out at fellow members who don't see eye-to-eye with them. That needs to stop. Being here is a priveledge, not a right. Act accordingly and we'll all have a good time.

your clarification worked! i have a friend, Ted, who if you read some of his posts (different forum) you'd think he was a total A-hole. i actually had to meet him in person to realize that A) he's cool, and B) he's like the most sarcastic, s%&t talker on the planet.
in person he's funny, in print he's can be a total dick
not that you're a dick, blueman, but it is nice to have some bigger perspective about WHY you're into gibson/SG/335's. its not easy to do typing!

While everyone has the right to say whatever they wish, it is also the reader's prerogative to take that with a grain of salt if there's no evidence that it is anything other than words. When it comes to guitar playing, until there is something to listen to in the form of a guitar being played, it's my belief that words alone are not enough to persuade.

You seem to be saying exactly what Blueman says regarding Gibsons vs Epiphones.
When it comes down to it, you have your opinion, and Blueman has his - both are equally valid, neither is "ridiculous". If he doesnt like strats, he doesnt like strats.

I do quite the opposite. I like playing SRV/Hendrix music at jams because everybody likes'em, and the other guys on stage know the chords and don't get lost mid-way thru the song. Beeing a G-Guy means that whenever I play this type of music, even when what I play is a note-per-note copy of the original, it will always sound original and different (and a very personal rendition) because I use guitars that differ from the original.
BTW : FYI "Mary" and "Little Wing" sound especially great on an SG ...
BTW2 : This is (partly) why Joe Bonamassa uses LP's these dats. At least that's what he says ...
