HEY..Does an Uberschall really smoke a MKIV Boogie THIS bad?

..or is it just cause the Uber is being played through a bigger cabinet I presume, and the MKIV is being played through a 1x12 combo speaker??

I don't see how anything could be compared with that crappy mic and echoing room. It destroys everything you'd want to hear.

I've never played a MKIV.

The Uberschall is one of the best amps I've ever played.

No question the Uber sounds epic.
I find it hard to believe the MKiv sounds that bad though.

I didn't watch the whole video, but amp settings and tubes can make a huge diff. Not saying the Uber is not better, but some may prefer one over the other. I'm of the opinion that I would have to play them both myself to see if one is really better than the other. Likely with my guitar, my pedals, and my cabinet, or at least the same cabinet on both.

Re: HEY..Does an Uberschall really smoke a MKIV Boogie THIS bad?

I didn't think the mesa sounded bad at all. He had then dialed in a bit different maybe, but both sounded good given that I take reality into consideration (4x12 vs 1x12).

Re: HEY..Does an Uberschall really smoke a MKIV Boogie THIS bad?

Both are good amps but the playing field wasn't level for a real comparison. The cab sizes make a huge difference and the Mesa is one of the tougher amps to get dialed in because it does so much and the slightest control tweaks make a huge difference. But I'm still going to blame the cabs on this one.

I don't even listen to a clip if I see some butt rock frat boy playing an Ibanez! LOL

haha "butt rock frat boy" thats a good one. I've never played an UBER but would love to get my grimey little mitts on one. i own a markIV for about ten years now, i dig it alot. its true that it does take a little bit to dial in things as there are so many controls on it. this video however is crap as far as comparison.

Re: HEY..Does an Uberschall really smoke a MKIV Boogie THIS bad?

A better comparison would be if both amps were mic'd up properly. In an untreated room, the difference between a 4x12 and 1x12 is going to be quite apparent.

Re: HEY..Does an Uberschall really smoke a MKIV Boogie THIS bad?

When comparing Mesa and Bogner I usually notice that Bogner manages to makes amps that preserve more of the great sound at lower volumes. Might want to take that into account.

I facepalm your facepalm. We dont know if he's palying through the 2x12 old Peavey Cabinet- sure looks like it. I doubt one speaker would make a huge difference, especially since those old Peaveys are junk. There have been several responses here not mentioning the cabinet as the primary concern, especially since the Mesa speaker is a damn good Blck Shadow you would have to presume, or even a EV12l, so even if the Uber is hooked up to the newer Peavey 4x12, your expecting everyone to go assuming it would make some ungodly difference accounting for the much better sound.

Put that in your pipe and smoke it.

I'dy like to know about this, since I'm shooting for possibly a Xstacy or a MKiv or earlier Boogie.

The Uber sounds like it's being played through a closed back 4x12.

The Mark IV sounds like it's being played through an open back 1x12 loaded with an MC90.

The Mark IV in the clip sounds more or less like every Mark combo amp does... heavy in the mids, light on the bass and open in it's response. More blues/rock than metal. If they'd close mid'd the cab the differences would've been less obvious since it'd capture more of the speaker sound an less of the cab/room sound. Boogie combos honk like mad in person but they generally sound huge through an SM-57.

Either way, if he'd plugged into a Recto 4x12 (oversized or traditional) it would've produced the punchier, more percussive sound that's typically associated with the Mark IV.

well, its sitting on top of the old Peavey with the eminence squarebacks, and a peavey head is on top of the Peavey 4x12 Blue marvel cabinet, so Im, gonan go with the Bogner is being played through the old peavey 2x12.

At any rate, i bet your right about the Mesa, which is good to know. maybe I should focus on a head, as Ive got so many 4x12 cabinets .
I seriously expected the Mesa to sound better, 1x12 open back notwithstanding. maybe the crummy mic used on that clip didnt pickup up enough bass on the Mesa from that clip?
But maybe , as was mentioned, it needed to be dialed in for a bassier sound?

I think I see why I earned the facepalm..cause you know how great a MKiv can sound and I don't, so I thought that that clip just proved maybe, that the Uber was so much of a betetr amp, which hopefully isnt true!

The combos don't project much bottom end into the room. Trust me... I've tried. That said, an SM57 on the speaker grille doesn't seem to know the difference. I've mic'd the open back cab (had a V30 in it) and a Recto 4x12 and the results were surprisingly similar.

Anyway....

Here's a proper recording. The first clip is dry guitar. He has it dialled in really bright, but listen to how it sits in the mix in the second clip.
