Sure. Or in series between a bass and the board. Or anywhere you need precision control over your EQ.

Ratherdashing is right. You get way, way more control using a parametric EQ as opposed to graphic.

Check out the Equinox. It's a very cool piece of gear.

Everything suggested so far exists in some form or another. Your collective lack of imagination is remarkable.

I think Tech21 used to make a combo compressor/overdrive. Very good product.

Visual Sound did too. The Route 66. I use it, and with the bass boost, that TS808 side (I swapped out the original chip for a better one though) is KILLER as a big boost.
